Why wouldn't you use a windshield washer when it's below freezing? I find it saves having to scrape the ice.

You're supposed to clear the windscreen of ice first! ;)

I was following dbd's example. It wasn't really icy, just mucky and against my better judgement I sprayed the washers and it smeared all over the screen and froze so I had a thin film of frozen washer fluid over my screen. I had to keep spraying until it dissapeared enough to be able to have a clear enough screen to see through.

Have they replaced that god awful fountain in Stevenage town centre yet?

I remember trying to take my daughter ice skating at the rink in Stevenage when she was about 3 only to find out it had closed a few years earlier.

I seem to remember the shops consisting of mainly card shops and charity shops.

Is that better?

Wow thanks so much for the responses. I was also checking out Hitchin and that's definitely a strong possibility. Most of the places in Stevenage I was scoping are right on the edge of town and possibly nearer to Hitchin anyhow. Problem is getting the right sized property as we have kids. Yes money is an issue because of the expense of moving back should this happen, and that I'm unlikely to have work before doing so. Now I'm thinking twice about this plan. Oh my god what a nightmare! But thanks everyone who have given their opinions. I've heard enough to think it's too much of a risk. At best people think it's ok but many people don't seem to like it which probably means it would be a mistake for us. You guys probably saved us making a big mistake. And thank you for the alternatives which we'll be sure to check out. You rock!!!!

I don't clear the screen. I just check that the wipers are free to move then blast on the squirters. Even though the defroster doesn't work for an hour after starting the car, the wipers and the fluid provide adequate translucency.

Good luck G, whatever you decide. It does seem as thought there are a few of us from the areas you are looking at so, ask away if you need some more info.

Hitchin is ok....in parts.

As with anywhere though it does have its 'bad' areas. I used to love Hichin for shopping and a good night out.

Letchworth is another town to consider also. It has mainline trains straight into London as well.
