Yes we did, we move in at the end of the month, May onward our rent will be $526 and will save us some $824 a month in housing costs.
Does that mean that you and L viewed the apartment and approved it and decided to accept it? I must have missed your post that told us about the place and your thoughts on it.
Yes, it does as I read the posts just above me now. My apartment was built in the '50's and we had super closet space four large double closets plus one linen closet in a one bedroom apartment.
Congratulations!
That rent is great, J, and will make such a difference in your lives. You might almost be able to save a few bucks each month.

That is always the problem with life, everything goes up but wages seem to not keep pace. Probably why more and more people struggle even with what should in theory be reasonably good incomes.

Our renters insurance will go down 50%. BC Housing has a partnership with an insurance company who provides lower cost renters to insurance to tenants so will be $175 per year vs $360 per year we currently pay, better coverage too...ha ha
Renewed our car insurance, with the ICBC changes to premiums, we will save $13.54 per month on car insurance.

Got our ICBC rebate check a few days ago, $160 so not too bad, and our insurance also went down at renewal so at least that has gone down in price.
But seems prices overall on many goods continue to rise as costs to manufacturers for raw materials rise.

Lumber is getting on for 3 or 4 times its cost before the pandemic. No signs of prices dropping either.

Stainless steel 13 gallon kitchen garbage cans. Prior to the pandemic Costco had in stock a Kohler 13 gallon garbage can for $99 and if on sale for $79. They haven't had any in stock in their Canadian stores at least where I am and we have 3 x stores. Looking at the US Costco website they are no longer carrying it or Kohler no longer supply them or make the item. A look at the Kohler website shows that you can order online and the same garbage/trash can is advertised for $304 or $294 on Amazon.ca.

I was going to build something small, just needed some plywood, but holy man was plywood ever expensive, was cheaper to just buy something similiar where in the past it would have been cheaper to build it.....
There was an article a month or 2 ago in BC saying the cost of lumber increasing would add something like 30,000-40,000 to a new build house on average.
I imagine high lumber prices is why logging companies are also so keen to cut down the old growth forests in BC.

Came across this from stats Canada for dairy products.
Looks like butter was up 7.87% in 2020
Cheese was up varying percentages in most of the country, although looks like the Prairies were the exception there in 2020, Ontario saw the highest increase.
Milk prices up for most of the country, with Prairies being the exception again.

In December we had 1100 feet of three rail fence installed. On Saturday the fence man was back to measure for the next bit, 1450 feet. He went away to prepare his estimate, "you will s*** yourself", he promised.
