What's the chefyest meal you have ever had?
For me it was Le Manoir au Quatre Saisons in Oxfordshire, owned by Raymond Blanc. I also ate in some fancy French place near the Champs Elysee but I can't recall the name of that. Some other places too but only Ray's place had a named chef.
I know a fair few of you move in more ehem, exalted circles. So tell all and make me jealous. |

I used to do a lot of the fancy chefy resturants in london when I worked for L'Oreal many years ago
But this was the best one in my memory http://www.roofgardens.virgin.com/ |

I used to be a regular at 'Le Petit Chef' at his many locations around the Motorways and A roads of Great Britain. Does that count?

Back in the day I did some teaching at the Norwegian School of Business and ate here.
My word it was grand and how the heck Norwegians can afford to eat out I really don't know! ;) J :) |

When I was dining on other people's money, I went to Gordon Ramsey's place at Claridge's; Mirabelle in Curzon St when Marco Pierre White owned it; The Ivy and Le Caprice; Kew Grill (Antony Worrall-Thompson)... working in technology PR at the height of the dot-com boom we could justify all-day client lunches or dinners that made a serious dent in a wine list - and could then be in work the next morning with nothing more to show for it than a hole in the corporate card. Neither my body nor my expense account (ha! chance'd be a fine thing) would stand the same mistreatment today :( Probably the most "chefy" places I've bought a meal with my own hard-earned are the River Cafe in Hammersmith (Rose Gray/Ruth Rogers) and La Trompette in Chiswick (Bruce Poole - they were dead excited because they'd just won a Michelin award, not quite the star they now have but a "highly commended" or something). Both were anniversary dinners. The food and wine were excellent, but paled into insignificance beside my dining companion. |

But this was the best one in my memory http://www.roofgardens.virgin.com/ When we lived in Harrow these people http://www.percys.co.uk/pages/restau...accolades.html had their first restaurant there which was excellent. |
Re: What's the chefyest meal you have ever had?
I've been to La Grenouille (http://www.la-grenouille.com/) a few times, any place that makes it on to the Sopranos is pretty special. I suppose I've been to all the name places in and around Toronto. I spent my own money at Bistro 990, where I was once a regular, and at Le Trou Normand. Also the Italian place in Yorkville where the maître d’ used to kill people for the Shah, I like that place though the name escapes me.
Michael Stadtländer's place isn't far from here. I suppose that's chefy but I'd enjoy it more if it didn't seem so derivative. |

Re: What's the chefyest meal you have ever had?
I've had a couple of nice bun feeds at Jean-Georges and Eleven Madison Park in NYC. Lola in Cleveland (Iron Chef Michael Symon's place) isn't quite in the same league, but still very good.

Quilted Giraffe in NYC.
Twelve courses of top grub washed down with a magnum of Cristal 1990. |

The two chefiest restaurants I have been to in Calgary are Centini's ( http://www.centini.com/Home/tabid/5427/Default.aspx ), and Rush ( http://www.rushrestaurant.com/ ) where hubby took me on our anniversary (Sept 11) Yummy!!!:p

Where would the cheffy places be in Toronto and surrounds?
Out in the middle of nowhere Stadtländer has a place in Singhampton which is very Fearnley-Whittingstall-ish. I ate well at the Hockley Valley Resort, there are pictures of the chef in all the tourist brochures but his name escapes me. |
