Default What shocked you when you landed?

For me it was the price of baby milk! $28 a tub (£7 in uk) gasp! He is 14mobths so technically doesn't need it but wow! Cows milk here we come.

And cheese, you REALLY weren't kidding about cheese were you!

Anyone know where I can get gravy from? Save on foods do a bistro one which I bought without realizing it has garlic in, I'm allergic! Any non garlic gravies out there? Ta.

The price of car insurance, cheese and beer. And (these are more likely specifically to Newfoundland) the phenomenen of it being foggy although there is a 100kph wind blowing, snow going sideways instead of gently falling like in the movies and how difficult snow is to move after it's been rained on for a couple of hours.

Lots of "surprises" but the biggest shock for me was finding out that you had to pay tax on second hand cars. I consider that government theft...

As canadian returning after 10 yrs, I was horrified about hydro bills and redebt payment...wth? Price of veg and fruit is awful, milk, meat, cheese, the bread here is not as nice either and not cheap....Prescriptions and glasses if you have no private insurance plan, am used to high dental bills....CAR INSURANCE AND HOME INSURANCE, what thieves!
So many times I have wanted to sell up and go back to UK....my property taxes have near doubled in 10 yrs.

Guess UK has it's probs as well tho....

Code red lockdowns; lemming like mentally of Canadians; how many drink and drive; weed smoking at school; obsession with Tim Hortons; lack of paid holidays; the farcical WSIB; amount of vehicles on driveways (and the size) .....

I came in July 1963 and it was 40C too warm for our English summer clothing. Back then A/C was not the norm and the Drawing Office I worked in was like a steam bath.
