My mate had this problem on his Acer laptop. Its control/shift or something like that. Anyway, type in the model and make and problem and google it as I'm sure other people have had this issue.

Restart the computer.

I do that all the time and never know how to fix it. I think it's something over on the lefthand side of the keyboard. I have a wayward left little finger that presses all the wrong keys.

Does the keyboard icon on the bottom row of the screen say US or Canadian English, or Canadian French?? You don't want French stuff.

Sometimes switching off and on helps.

Sometimes a gin and tonic helps.

Ièm going to switch on and off, I have a wayward lefty too, it is something over that side. If not Ièll go to the liquor store and get some G&T:rofl: Otherwise everyone will have to put up with éès instead of ?ès - Oh now another key is giving me éééés:eek:

Is there a little keyboard icon in your menu bar thing... try clicking on that and setting it back to US or UK, could be its managed to set itself in Canadian (French). Failing that go through the control panel to check the keyboard type. Could also be called the "language bar"

I just right clicked on the icon on my notebook and its set to "Auto Adjust". For some reason the Grauniad and a fer other websites like to ply me with French ads from time to time, so I wonder if its not possible that it just changes sometimes without any inadvertent key strokes? Anyway, thats my guess of how to fix it...keyboard icon in the menu bar thing. Its also possible to change it on the Vista log on screen.

I had the same problem once, which was caused by my shift key stuck down.

Is there not a sign on the bottom RHS along the task bar that represents the keyboard. Left click your mouse over it to get the options, thats how I recovered it the last time, but G & T is also good, but not on the keyboard.
I am sure that this happens when you hold down certain keys in sequence for a prolonged period (so many seconds!) This can happen after 6 G & T's

I think you will all find that I mentioned the little keyboard icon back in post 5. I imagine you were all diverted by thoughts of G and Ts and wayward pinkies.

You see what you have doneÉ I now have è and És which is wrong.

Looking for the keyboard icon.

Which was now auto adjust and canadian multi lingual standard. It's now back with the 'mercans. Left click and chose 'US'
