What do you miss from where you came from?

Curious, what do you mean by war in this context?
I ask because what goes on here might count. Certainly there appears to be a fair bit of industrial espionage going on in terms of prices.
Very often the flyers come out (they are out on the same day) and both rival stores may have exactly the same price for an item on sale and it's not even the 'obvious' $3.99 lb sort of thing, it could be a $3.67. It's either coincidence or there's a spy in the other camp.
Then the next day one store may run a full page ad in the paper matching or beating the other's price and in the same paper, the other store may counter the new advertised price.
Sometimes the timing of these things can only be explained by a spy in the camp, the price fixing meeting being bugged or someone at the printers or newspaper advertising department tipping the other side off.

Simply supermarkets undercutting each other, a phenomenon that hasn't made it to Manitoba yet. Indeed competition appears restricted to ice hockey or curling!

I miss nothing. I haven't even been back for more than 10 years. Probably the result of being in Canada since 1969.

Breakfast in the worker's cafe at the bottom of the road where my former house was.

If I wanted to be really precise in my answer I would say stottie cake, but then I couldn't get that in England any more. I'd also quite like to eat one of my Auntie Ethel's bacon sandwiches (made with stottie of course) while sitting in front of her coal fire.

Why can't you get Stotties anymore bats? Because you don't travel to the North East when you go?

I think 3 locals. All dreadful. We leave the radio on for Derek the budgie to sing along to and they just play the same damn 10 records again and again. At work the girls have Sirrius 80s and 90s music on in the background....what's that about? As with most other things in Canada, everything is so damned retro

The local stations here only slightly better.
Suppose traditional radio is a dying breed though.

Stotties now are just regular bread in a flat round shape and this is wrong.

Yeah- that is not a stottie- I could imagine some enterprising soul will be trying to rustle up a half decent gluten free stottie

Don't miss anything, do the same and more in Canada.
