What did you want to do as a kid when you grew up? (job wise)

Until I was 8 I thought I was destined to be a train conductor. I lived in a railway station, had driven one of the old steam engines (sitting on the engineer's lap for about a mile from station to section-house) that still plied our division until about 1962 when diesels finally replaced them, taken tickets (I really wanted to do this), travelled thousands of miles on our family pass and walked up and down the length of the CPR passenger trans-continental countless times. I only worked for the railways for a few years, despite a multi-generational railway heritage. I don't think any of my cousins stuck either, though I could be wrong.

When I was in primary school I wanted to write pop songs. I think it's interesting how I never wanted to be an actual pop star though. XD This later evolved into wanting to write music for video games in my early teen years (I eventually studied music at university).
As for my actual career path, I was a writer in various positions for many years and now I do quality assurance in the gaming industry... So I don't think that I did too badly!

I wanted to be a car breaker (wrecker in local parlance). I'm not.
My daughter is a trial lawyer, a prosecutor, like on Law and Order. I don't know that it accords her the satisfaction I hoped to gain from automotive disassembly but few of us wind up where we would have chosen.
A glance at linkedin would tell you, btw, that my ambitions have evolved. Deck chair attendant/Beach Chair Administrator, is what I should have been and dream of being now.

I'm curious.
Does your daughter like her job? I fancy working for human rights or social causes but I think I'd be too emotional to do well.

I wanted to be a dustbin man, so in that respect my life is a total failure.
