It's been bucketing down in Montreal the last couple of days, too. Been here for a conference; some bugger decided it'd be a good idea to leave a bag of rocks in a Metro station yesterday afternoon and call it in as a bomb threat, so the whole system was shut down for a few hours and the whole downtown came to a grinding halt.

I'd sneaked off for what I hoped would be a quick visit to my ailing M-i-L in hospital, but turned into a dilemma between sitting in a cab with the meter running up in stationary traffic, or getting thoroughly sodden by giving up and walking.

A propos of nothing else in particular, this morning's keynote speaker was Sergio Marchionne, CEO of Fiat. He'd agreed to speak months ago, before embarking on the purchase of various bits of Chrysler and GM, so I'm somewhat surprised (but quite impressed) that he honoured his commitment.

I can see that. I wonder if Frank Stronach was there?

Not that I noticed... I get the impression Fiat was only making overtures about Opel/Vauxhall so that they could come to an accommodation with Magna, take Saab from GM and as much as they want of Chrysler, and keep the price down for everybody.

I see the bondholders of GM are being complaining little ninnies in today's papers... don't these people understand that a larger percentage of nothing is still nothing, and therefore significantly less than a smaller percentage of something? A plague on all their houses.

For bondholders read hedge fund managers. The same vultures who forced Chrysler into Chapter 11. They have bought the debt up at a massive discount and are gambling they'll make a profit in bankruptcy court.

Unaccountable, unscrupulous, abhorrent pirates who don't give a flying duck about anything but themselves.

Starting off crocheting your parachute would probably be a bit optimistic!

Ooo yes, problematic. Maybe a pair of big, padded knickers would be the place to start.
