We're thinking of asking Doree Bonner for our moving

I just thought I'd ask you your personal experience, with them or with any other removal company...

We used them last year and they were very good, as we're their partners in Canada.

Ditto...I used them too in 2004....no complaints though a tad pricey...however you get what you pay for....:)

Check the insurance they offer very carefully. Annoying and sour taste to what was initially a very good service.

A fair point Ann....full coverage is very expensive. I only insured what I considered valuable enough to justify.....and extra insurance jacks up the cost considerably. The terms of the insurance should be examined carefully! As to making a claim...I wouldn't know. As it happens all arrived safe and sound in my case..

As our costs were covered by our relocation package, we went for the belts and braces option, everything fully insured with the marine insurance.

The one bit of small print we fell foul of was the insurance value per box of possessions which was limited to 40GBP.

I had purposefully and specifically insured bikes, pictures, certain crockery (like all our Denby stuff), special mirrors and large furniture. Everything else was covered under the normal 40GBP per carton insurance.

That did not asisst me with one particular box containing nearly 1000GBP of stuff which was smashed to smithereens because they 'forgot' to wrap any of it. And of course they wouldn't take any responsibility for that.

So I cannot recommend them purely because of the after-service.

That's terrible, just shows how different things can be for different people, it was the one nightmare I had, important family things being broken or lost.

I used them, based in part on good things that other people had said. I'm guessing that service varies depending on where you are in the country, because they were five hours late to pick up my stuff, it was a few weeks late arriving in Canada, I didn't get any response to my emails to them after I moved over here, and one box went missing on its way across the Atlantic but I didn't bother trying to claim for it because nothing particularly valuable was in there.

All that said, everything else arrived intact and the customs service at this end through their agent was easy. So given the general hassle of emigrating in the first place the problems I had were pretty low on the scale.

We had our goods shipped with Doree Bonner. The experience with them through the quote and then the actual packing was very good.

As we were in Canada already the quote was all done through e-mail correspondance and it worked well. The packing was quick and efficient too, we had quite a small amount that needed done and they were finished in about 3 hours.

The Canadian side was also good, I had a few calls from the agent (Tippet Richardson) letting me know progress of the container.

All our goods arrived safe with no issues.

Thank you for sharing your experiences!

It made us think again before to jump, and we are actually re-inviting 3 companies to re-visit our home and requirements for removal.

Doree Bonner
Simpsons
Eagle

Simpsons has given us the best offer, but not the same specification as the 2 others... (a smaller container) the thing is they haven't been around the house, but the 2 other who have, I feel might have over estimated the size.

again from your experience...???

We went with Dorree Bonner and we were very pleased with them. Everything arrived as it should. We didn't use their insurance but went through Letton Percival instead. They turned up on time and everything was packed really well.

Bonners were very quick, and efficient on the UK side, their Canadian agent no so impressive. Can't comment on the insurance as nothing got broken.

We used them, however we haven't seen the results yet!!

They are using Brytor as the handlers is Canada, which is really bad news , because they then subcontract to non-FIDI agents, despite us paying for FIDI unpackers................

Unfortunately we've now seen the results - the unpackers provided in Halifax were clueless (wardrobe boxes were carried / put down upside down, they broke a strip of wood nearly 2' long off the chest of drawers and shoved it in a drawer (hoping we wouldn't notice??:banghead:), and they put bubble wrapped stuff next to the baseboard heaters on both occasions then wondered why it started to melt!!) and whilst they wrapped most of the china well they just chucked shoes / boots and clothes into boxes and they're nicely crushed..... could not recommend.

There are not any FIDI members in Halifax. Did Brytor actually handle your goods or was it a company in Halifax? perhaps something you should clarify before taking their name in vain. My guess is that Brytor did not actually handle the goods at all. Who ever you shipped with would have faced the same problem.
