Wedding list... what would you do?
Hey all!
I'm due to get married to my lovely fiancee in March of next year. We're planning to leave for Calgary in July on either PR or a BUNAC/CEC 1 year visa, depending on what we have at the time. As part of the usual wedding thing, my fiancee would like to have a wedding list but I'm concerned about gathering a load of stuff that would need shipping / storing etc. I think our best bet might be to ask people to consider donations for our honeymoon. Failing that, I suppose it might be possible to get a Canadian wedding list at a store in Canada. What would you do? Thanks :) |
Re: Wedding list... what would you do?
to be fair if i had to do it again(wedding) i would ask for deposits of cash instead of all the bulky things that seem to be problems when moving.
But you know how things are when she wants this and that would look good in the living room!! . just plan what you need and dont get alot. all you need is love but there is no romance without finance. best of luck:fingerscrossed:. |
Re: Wedding list... what would you do?
My sister got people to contribute to her honeymoon, then people can give as little or as much as they like and unlike a dinner set the memories will last forever! :o

Re: Wedding list... what would you do?
We went to a wedding here in Canada back in the summer and they too asked for contributions towards a Honeymoon. Seems a sensible and increasingly popular option, particularly these days where many couples have already set up home before getting married.

Re: Wedding list... what would you do?
As someone about to plump for this state, I'd recommend both.
A wedding list of stuff that you actually want, and failing that a donation for your honeymoon. I come from a traditional family, and I think that my parents and most of my relatives would go into a headspin at the thought of providing cash at a wedding. So I'd do both. Get some stuff that I can't afford, and potentially will last a lifetime, or alternatively give me some money towards a bang up vacation... |

While I would be quite happy to give cash/contribute towards a honeymoon, Great-Auntie Mable may not like the idea one bit. |

We went to a Canadian-Italian wedding a few years ago and all the presents were folding. |

Not for Irish Catholic's its not. I've oft heard the parental units discuss with horror other relatives who have plumped for the cash option.

I'd go for the cash every time. That way, I'd get to buy stuff I wanted, as opposed to receiving stuff people thought I might want. |

Is 'plump' your word for the day, or does this wedding involve more than romance?;)

Re: Wedding list... what would you do?
We got married in april this year, we already owned two houses full of everything you could need and certainly didnt need anymore housey stuff and so we used this little poem inside our invitations - most guests were happy and gave us money but we did also get a lovely set of towels and a picture frame. :p
Now please don't think we're selfish, Or that this comes from greed, But we've lived together for a while, So there's not that much we need We would appreciate help though, To send us on our way, And allow us to have our honeymoon, In a land quite far away So now the point of all this rhyme, The thing that we would like, Isn't towels, toasters or microwaves, But pounds and pence alike And now you know the reason, Behind this cheeky accord, Please help to give us memories, Of a dream honeymoon abroad |
Re: Wedding list... what would you do?
I would be grateful for whatever the guests chose to give me:D
