WE ARRIVED!!!

We're in Fredericton!

Flew in Toronto (2 hours late flight) from Gatwick on Sunday, drove to Montreal (stayed 1 night in...errr, I forgot right now ) then Drummonds Ville, Montreal for a car swap! that was a bit more tricky as they wanted to give us a TRUCK!!! It was HUGE! (got lot of luggage) :p lol
All the way to Quebec, stayed in Edmunston over night and drove today to Fredericton.

Just checked my emails and just saw that the contact we had made with the estate agent for short term accommodation answered that they had nothing in furnished...

First "Gloup"

:fingerscrossed::fingerscrossed::fingerscrossed:

There's so much to do now, find a car, return the hire car, find accommodation that is affordable, all the paper work... (driving licenses, national insurance numbers equivalent, etc...)
So Daunting!

Hi Aline,
Welcome to Fredericton

Did you try Colpitts or Killiam for furnished accomodation? Check kijiji too. Good luck sorting everything out and if you have any questions or need any help just give me a shout.

Re: WE ARRIVED!!!

Hi Sinead!

Yes, I think that was colpitts.
However today we are going to try see if something is available from 2 other links you gave me in the past - BIG THANK YOU!!! :)
So that we can unpack a bit, it's been stop and go again non stop this week so far, I will be glad to see the weekend coming

When we stopped in Edmunston, the receptionist said that usually at this time of the year it has already snowed! ...so we're having this little extra excitement and panic at the same time, LOL!!!

(definetely a bit warmer today though)

If you spot any good deal on a car, please think of us, we will be looking shortly... (and I need a bit more advice about winter tyres too please)

okay, A bientot

Hi Aline,
Yes it has been unusually mild lately - I am praying it stays that way until the end of next week as we are moving house and I don't want to move in the snow

I think most places will have offers on cars at the minute - head up the Hanwell Rd/Prospect and that's where most of the car places are, Toyota are out off the Vanier Highway. Are you looking to buy or lease? We leased ours through Ford.

Good luck settling in :)

Re: WE ARRIVED!!!

yes, well... panic starts to set in tonight!

We have seen horrible flats all week - some truly HORRID!!! (we some youngsters getting evicted as we were being shown around!)

The one we liked and saw first, called back tonight and just told us that the tenant downstairs didn't want any children above (we have 2 girls aged 4 and 20 months) I feel really bad, the girls when we visit houses are running around play and laugh... and are hard to round, and keep quiet  it makes me feel that maybe it is why we have been turned down.

The other flats or bungalows we seen, I wouldn't like to live in with my children (different if it was only me "maybe") but with winter coming, and the children I would like somewhere decent.

Am so scared, it is not going to work out...

Honestly what we have seen so far is NOT SUITABLE.

I worry that this is definetely the WRONG TIME OF THE YEAR TO HAVE COME OVER, every thing is rented for the winter...

Hi Aline,
Are you still looking for furnished places? A lot of apts are geared towards students so you will find some dodgy ones, if you go to one of the property management companies they have some better townhouses/apts but there may be a waiting list for available units. We found rentals are expensive in Fredericton, especially if you are looking for something non-studenty, there are some good properties out there though take a drive about as not all advertise on kijiji - try the daily gleaner too. There is a house for rent on Sunset dr they are currently doing it up but I haven't seen it advertised, apart from a sign out front. I also work with a guy that rents out property so I will ask him if he has anything available.

On another note if you are free on Saturday evening there is a newcomers pub night @ the Lunar Rogue on King street which you are welcome to come along too, there is usually a good crowd at it so you can meet lots of people. Not sure if i can make it though my OH might go.

Good luck with your search,
Sinead

Thank You!!! That is so sweet of you!

I think we are sorted!!!! (what a *monday* we had though) I really cannot believe it! Tara, from Colpitts Dvlpment has shown us an appartment (Abbott Court on their website) we just found it incredible - you bet after the horrors we've seen the rest of last week!!!
So we're going to rent it if we can  it is close to the major things we do Mc Do - with the play area  Tim Hortons, KFC (usually used to be on MOndays and Thursday LOL), and the shop and the French School for next september if we do not find anything better before then.

I feel we're very lucky to have seen that! It feels safe, good quality, nice and very spacious - check this out the laundry room/onsite launderette (me who's a laundry freak, LMAO) has a few work out machines!!! So I can even get fit - hourra! (been complaining for years - maybe ever! that I should exercise - NO MORE EXCUSES) and... and... it will feel such a liberation to not have a washer and dryer in the home! OH wasn't too much for living in appartments, but I think now he is convinced - to start, I think it might be for the best actually, and as we will be in a basement flat, we will not disturb anyone (our little girls can be very lively :-D )

So I cannot thank you enough for having pased the contact to me Sinurt, thank you, thank you ((((MERCI))))

That sounds very good that meet up on Saturday, am not sure we will be able to make it this time though - are children allowed? - and if all goes well we been told we could move in this weekend (either way we would be moving I think, as we also had found short time, better than the hotel)

Also, how went / is going your move??? Settled yet? (lol, it never is the same after each move!)

That's it for now, time to get moving -swimming and dinner and TV (large plasma screen at the Ramada)

XXXX

Re: WE ARRIVED!!!

Hi Aline,
Glad to hear you got sorted  we rented with Colpitts for over a year and never had any problems with them plus they were usually very quick to respond if we ever had a problem in the house. Is it in the new block of apts you got into? They look nice, good luck with your move

The meet on Saturday is in the pub and usually starts around 8 but you can take kids into the pub if you are eating (actually not sure if this is a rule we just usually are eating if we are there with our son!!) and I know others have taken their kids before - just as long as they are out before 10 it's fine.

We move on Thursday so have been busy packing, nightmare but hopefully this will be the last move for awhile!!

We will have to arrange a get together once you are all settled :)

Yes we'll have to, once we are all settled lol!
We got the flat yesterday, yes the building seems pretty new in comparison of the others around which do look good too.

We also getting the car at the moment! ... and as we went exactly where YOU RECOMMENDED, THAT IS ENTITLING YOU TO A $50 FROM THEM I think...
So we should definetely get in touch!!! We are dealing with Rollie, and he told us that if we were to send anyone there to get their car we could get $50, so :p:p:p I quickly mentioned YOU sent us there ;) - just need your name and maybe details, not sure exactly how it works if they send it to you or you have to collect it from them?

Really good luck with the moving and unpacking... have bought a place or just found somewhere better?

X

Aline
