Watching TV on BBC iPlayer in Canada

For anyone interested, my $50 annual subscription for Private Internet access expired so I thought I would give Nord VPN a try instead.

The reason I need a VPN is because I do a lot of movie torrent downloads and if I don't use a VPN, I get hate mail from the movie companies threatening to sue me blah blah.

Anyway, code RETAILMENOT will get you 70% off, so it cost me $110 for a 2 year subscription (about 15c per day) and so far so good. I enabled Smart DNS and was able to enter that DNS IP address into my Apple TV and BBC iPlayer worked OK.

I see a lot of chats about watching British TV on here so if you are in the market for a VPN / geolocation blocker, give them a try, they have a 30 day money back guarantee.

Don't ask me for tech support as I get all my answers from Google and youtube videos

Took a bit of fiddling around, but I managed to sign into the app store on my Apple TV using my UK iTunes account and downloaded the ITV Hub app. So now I have both BBC iPlayer and ITV Hub working OK, this combo seems to be very similar to Britbox which is $90 year.

I'm not much of a UK TV watcher these days, but my Wife will be very happy with Graham Norton back on the TV again.

For downloading I use PIA like you did.

For household DNS services I use GetFlix, which so far ( a year ) has been extremely reliable on all Apple TVs and devices. I too kept my UK Apple account going and have the apps for BBC, C4, C5 and ITV on all devices and working perfectly.

I will keep a note of your post in case problems occur in the future.

When registering for BBC iPlayer it asks for your post code do you have to put in the post code for an address that you know has a TV licence or just any old UK postcode.

I used my old postcode of GU15 4LD which is in Surrey. I think that may determine what local news coverage you see after the national news. I see BBC news southeast.

They have some pretty good support doc available that I used. This one came in handy for me.

As for setting it up on your TV, I find YouTube the most useful for me as I can play - pause - play - pause while I follow along. Good luck.

The catch is that I can't download BBC iPlayer. It seems I have to change the payment country for Google Play store to the UK and you can only do this once a year I can work out how to this on my phone but I don't want to use the phone for this but can't do it in the tv. It must be gin time soon

One of the FA Cup ties was only on PPV in Canada today.

I used Hoxx add-on to watch it on BBC and it worked first time.

I'm in the US, so I suppose that might make a difference.
I have Norton for virus, it recently added a VPN in to the package, it has been reliable for getting BBC. Many might already have Norton, and not noticed the VPN support.
For downloading my system uses the following work flow: NZBGeek > Sonarr > Sabnzbd > Plex (Tell Sonarr what series to look for, and they appear on my TV in the Plex app)

It seems to go through phases. Disconnect and reconnect then refresh a few times. I've had it work anything from 1st go to 6th go. Anything more than that I'll seek another option. Like the above.
