Default A waste of Scotch or what.

No doubt there will be many Scots shedding a tear tomorrow or possibly treading water tomorrow as Liz is going to be christening the Royal Navy's new aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth in Rosyth.
Whiskey from the Bowmore Distillery, which has produced the drink on the island of Islay since 1779, was chosen to for the ceremony because the queen previously paid an official visit to the distillery.

Yes it does seem a waste. The Bowmore is a lovely malt. Somehow when the smash a bottle of bubbly on a new ship it seems normal, but a bottle of malt seems sacrilegious.

Yes it does in some way, however lets think about it here....its a British Royal Navy aircraft carrier, do we really want some French stuff smashed all over her, or be a little sacrilegious and have the best of British smashed across her bow to send her on her way into service?

Still, a malt. It's precious stuff. Maybe a bottle of Grouse would have sufficed?

Me suspects it's a very politically motivated decision to play up the Scottish role in the UK armed forces and support before the referendum.

Also it's not a bad idea anyway. What's a bottle of 60 quid malt against a 3.1 billion pound aircraft carrier?

Agreed! Especially on Laphroaig. Did you see their recent ad (love/hate) campaign? Quite good.
