Re: WARNING!
with such a strong dog you never know and should never ever take that chance, so many owners regret will for the rest of their lives leaving their child alone with the family dog thinking that the dog is harmless and so good with the kids, some of the kids are no longer around....madness.

Re: WARNING!
I agree with Amy it's not funny. In fact if my dog suffered the same abuse from anyone whether a 2 year old or a 40 year old I would be very angry.
Is this how some look at 'a mans best friend' a toy to draw on?
I always feel bad for dogs as they only need to snap once before we kill them yet how many times have we snapped in our lives?
As Iain said it is extremly rare that a household dog will ever actually bite so it must be something about the owners lack of respect shown towards the dog.

Re: WARNING!
What kids that have been killed by dogs over the last few decades is far higher than single figures.

Re: WARNING!
Maybe all dogs should be banned as pets, and kids banned from the streets and from being in cars as parents clearly are putting their children in harms way by driving them about.... Paranoia and media hysteria is what it is.
However, Lest we forget, this is the (allegedly) light hearted "Maple Leaf" sub forum of BE, not the "paint your dog" subforum of PutBullLovers.com.... I dont know why you are all getting in a lather about this, it was clearly intended as a joke, and has been doing the rounds by email anyway...Take it up with the people who run the internet!

Re: WARNING!
And compared to say car accidents how significant is the number?, and how many were non put bull attacks anyway? Maybe all dogs should be banned as pets.... Paranoia and media hysteria is what it is.

I did not say ban dogs I just said people should be aware when leaving small children alone with dogs like pit bull, rottweilers etc, a young child could easily upset a dog if left alone with it, would you leave a young infant alone with a pit bull even if you thought the dog was placid.

To answer your question, If I had a dog I would teach the kids very early on not to mess with it regardless of breed, as we did with our cats. As I said earlier, I dont believe that a well adjusted socialised family pet pit bull or Rottie poses much more significant risk in the great scheme of things than any other breed. The chances of anything bad happening are insignificant compared to the risk of crossing the road and being hit by a drunk driver. Its nutters who train them to be aggressive and then dont take responsibility to keep them away from people who pose the risk...not responsible families keeping them as pets.
Jumping all over this JOKE on the grounds that its irresponsible in some way just leaves me short of appropriate adjectives. There is even a warning right there that "those of a delicate disposition may find the picture disturbing"

Re: WARNING!
That story is truly awful but is a real story. I dont believe the joke at the beginning of this thread is real.
The woman deserves more than what she got but I suppose raising a potential Jeffrey Dahmer is punishment enough

Re: WARNING!
I hope it wasn't perm ink
My daughter got one of my eldest dry marker, i thought she was playing so happy with her teddy's
so i was cleaning up, she start to roar and i thought eh
When i looked round she was pretending to be a tiger, she had drawn the markings of a tiger all over her face, neck and hands, even coloured her nails in :curse:
Whilst i was laughing my head off, my OH was legging it for the baby wipes, i thought it was so funny i have stuck on facebook, my hubby thinks my humour is out of order, but kids will be kids, left alone with a marker (or in her case, sneaking into her sisters room )
Lesson - Do not by perm markers for kids, only dry markers allowed now in our house
