VPN/DNS

Re: VPN/DNS
I have Kodi also but adding apps is not easy and some stuff just doesn't work after a while. There is s great film app which allows you to watch latest movies but for some reason after a few weeks it just fails to work at all now. This is a new install on smart TV as the previous install on laptop just stopped working properly altogether. The Filmon app was ok but i found it easier to use my Roku box.

Re: VPN/DNS
Interesting...I just tried that...the usual box says UK but the IP showed USA. Cleared iPlayer cache but made no difference.
No hoxx in the cache but there was some vpn there - express something or other, so I cleared those. It still said UK as usual and the look up still had USA.
Okay I thought, let's have a look at this leak thing that I had noted, clicked the IP look up again and this time it said UK and not USA. Perhaps it just needed a couple of minutes to change? Tried iPlayer and it worked.
So that's something worth thinking about next time, then. Cheers.

More and more I'm thinking the internet is like phones when you repeatedly dial, get the engaged signal and then suddenly it rings. A couple of times recently I've clicked a bookmark, the tab opens but all that happens is the whirly thing whirls. A second or third attempt produces the same thing. A third or fourth go connects instantly while the whirly things are still whirling on the other tabs.
Last night I couldn't get BBC iPlayer via Hoxx, cleared the cache, made no difference. Even though UK selected and showing, IP look-up had USA.
I tried different locations and the look-up showed those locations while UK kept showing USA.
However, I noticed that with every location change, the iPlayer page refreshed. So I just kept clicking UK on Hoxx and on something like the 5th page refresh, iPlayer worked.
Maybe it's like throwing a dice and a 'six' works.

Vader Stream
This was recommended to me as a way to 'cut the cable'. Apparently $15/month but you need unlimited internet which we have.
Anybody used this or had any experience in it and what channels are available. My friend told me he watched more premier league than was possible.
What equipment would I need for this. I'm a bit of a newb in all of this. I just have Netflix, dodgy streams on the computer and a free way to trick the BBC into thinking I never left its golden shores but that only works on the PC.

Re: VPN/DNS
Filmon has some serious issues they are failing to tell their customers about. The recording system, support system, phone and e mail contact are all down since Jan 8th and all they give out is a message on their website about an upgrade which didn't appear until days after the issues. Hundreds of complaints on social media, just google "is filmon down" and check all the comments from Facebook users.

Re: VPN/DNS
Serious question - is Kodi any less of a 'hassle' than a VPN or other streaming?
VPN - (Hoxx as an example) one click of an icon and then click UK in the drop-down list and iPlayer is available.
Stream - click the bookmark for your favoured source, locate the title, click one of the links (vidzi usually best) that appears and watch.
That's pretty much it. Personally I use internet download manager on the streaming sites and save it (as you do on Kodi) for later.
I don't know how Kodi works but it's hard to imagine it's less hassle than something that requires so little 'work'

Re: VPN/DNS
We use Kodi but it lags regularly which the pleasure out of watching a good movie.
On our our android box we also have something called Modus or something like that.
It has BBC , ITV , Sky and tons of other channels. They’re live streams though so bring several hours behind the U.K. can be an issue.
I’m not a techy but maybe there’s a way of recording them I don’t know.
It doesn’t lag too much either.

Re: VPN/DNS
I now think clearing cache - partly or completely - might just be coincidence...
(It made no difference in getting access but reselecting UK in the Hoxx drop down menu refreshed the page and doing that a few times one eventually worked. Like throwing a dice and a 'six' works.)
