VERY IMPORTANT
So last year at Christmas a group of us in the lounge were made aware of a group of kid who lived without parents in the US
one of our members (sugarmomma) was their social worker .... somebody suggested why not sent them a Christmas card from the various States wishing them a happy Christmas ... Most of the card held a few dollars so they could buy a few extras ..from these kind people we even had card arriving from Canada and Dingo and you just cannot believe how little is was to do ...but what a great effect it had ... So I though lets expand it a bit this years and get kids in the US Canada Australia NZ and even the UK so if there are any Social workers or you know of any kids in a family who we could send a bunch of card too We will just go for one group per country this year |

It worked last Christmas from a thread that was opened in The Lounge. Someone (Sugarmooma) knew a family of children who had no parents. We sent cards and money to the kids via SM. So if someone knows of a similar needy case please shout out.

Re: VERY IMPORTANT
Thats a great idea and seems like a very worthy cause count me in .My wife works on an oncology department In Nova Scotia . If you need any needy families there are plenty there. Its unimaginal the emotional and financial hardship some families are forced to endure when a child gets cancer.

Re: VERY IMPORTANT
Ray do you have a name yet? If not I may be able to put a name your way. It would be the name of a child with cancer in the Toronto area and would be in liaison with the Big Brothers Little Sisters Foundation.

Re: VERY IMPORTANT
OK spoke to the wife about this generous initiative. Tania works as an oncology nurse at Kentville hospital. She is currently treating 6 children under 10 and 2 of them fall into the category of needy. For needy read no money for gas/medicines/food etc. There is a charitable fund to help out these patients but sadly it doesnt stretch far all donations will be gratefully received.
Address for cards are: Nurse Tania Williamson Oncology Clinic AMB Care Valley regional Hospital 150 Exhibition Street Kentville Nova Scotia B4N 5E3. Thanks in advance |

Re: VERY IMPORTANT
Dunno about the Moosies but I sent a card over . It won't be there yet though.
For anyone interested we finally found a recipient for New Zealand. Better late than never. Anyone in this forum wants to put a smile on a child's face please feel free. This years recipient for our New Zealand Secret Santa is a young 6 year old called Bianca who has been bravely battling Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia cancer for the past 3 years. What I feel is worthy about this , is that the family have given their time to raise funds and help others in this situation rather than just looking inward and focussing on themselves. As we all know New Zealand hasn't the greatest of populations and so , if one has spent any length of time here, one knows just how fundamentally important individual support is within a community. Because of Bianca's age, I wanted the go ahead from her parents and I now have that. I'm told that Bianca will love to receive cards & small gifts and why not indeed after all she has been through. If any of us wish to add a few $$$ towards her parents target goal for fund raising , then so much the better. The Secret Santa is about a random act of kindness at this time of year. I hope we can all do this for Bianca. Anyone who wishes to take part, please PM to me & I will send you the details of where to send your cards/gifts and/or $$. If you wish to see further about what the family has had to battle, I can give you a link for this , but please remember this is a journal by the family Thanks and Merry Christmas BEVS |
