Vancouver Transit workers issue 72 hour notice.

So if they do declare before closing time tomorrow it's a direct threat against Monday rush hour... makes sense. As usual it isn't likely to be news unless it's bad news and they strike. Nothing works without transit, and I hope they get a fair settlement soon.

I know they have talks scheduled on the 28th, suppose the union leaders could decide to go out the same days the bus drivers do, that would really be noticeable, only lines that would be running would be Canada Line, West Coast Express, and some bus services from West Vancouver as West Vancouver bus drivers are a different union, and handy dart as that is operated by a different company from regular buses, but most of metro Vancouver would be without transit service.
Strikes are one reason why I am wary of commuting long distance for jobs on it, while not common if someone is living in say Langley and commutes into Vancouver, and the buses are not running and they don't drive, they have very limited options.

Interesting how the public seems to view white collar workers vs blue collar workers.
Comments on articles/discussions about transit workers and its a lot of they are greedy, they don't deserve to make more, their job is easy, they don't work hard, along those lines.
Comments on discussions about teachers and its they are underpaid, they work hard, they have a hard job, they should make the same as doctors and along those lines.
Just an interesting observation I have noticed over the last few months.

Unless an agreement is reached, full shut down of skytrain Tues/Wed/Thur.

Maybe they will reach a last minute agreement and avoid a shut down which is what happened with bus drivers.

Bus Drivers work for Coast Mountain Bus Company.
Sky train employees excluding Canada Line work for British Columbia Rapid Transit Company
Canada Line employees work for Pro Trans BC a subsidiary of SNC-Lavalin Inc.
Guess each work-group just chose different unions.
If the workers do strike Tue-Wed-Thur, I expect a lock out to happen on Friday, but hopefully they reach a deal before Tuesday, if sky train is shut down, those who rely on it will be out of luck, buses can't handle all the extra passengers, buses are already overcrowded and unpleasant.

If there was a skytrain strike at-least Canada Line will still run.

Well, the roads are going to be fun tomorrow...
I currently drive from NE Maple Ridge to Annacis and back every day. 1 hour each way just on a good day....

And they can't even add more buses as that would violate labor laws apparently.
" TransLink will not have additional buses on its regular routes and cannot put buses on SkyTrain routes or have bus bridges between SkyTrain stations as it would violate labour laws."
So far doesn't sound like much progress has been made, and mediated talks failed last week.
