Now what about those jobs & making "America great again"
I heard that there were 98,000 new jobs created last quarter. Not that many IMO.

But the jobless rate is the lowest in a decade...apparently.

But the labor force participation rate is flat. The unemployment rate excludes people like the long term unemployed. Also some place disability rates have risen for long term unemployed.

Labor Force Participation Rate Maintains Momentum, Flat for the Month, Up from Its Low

Only 63% of the population are employed.

and weekly hours are down, implying still a lot of people in part time work.

It's a bit soon to attribute any shifts in employment levels to Trump, innit?

The amount of new jobs is the key figure. Unemployment will follow the rate of new job growth.

What was that much quoted maxim? 'Make America Great Again'?
Well it appears that America is never greater than when it's invading, attacking and killing people, other people far away that is.
I agree that this is probably a cynical act designed, like so many recent presidential acts, to throw a smoke screen over and drown out current media stories.
It's frightening to realise that one man can activate so much military force because he says he saw a picture on the TV, a medium that he admits he views a great deal of. So how different was this photo from all those other pictures of mahem and catastrophe?
And where are the checks and balances that hold this man to account? Why have the international political elite fallen in behind him? Why is unilateral action outside the UN suddenly acceptable?
The Syrian civil war is a disaster, and one that the west did little to stop and some, myself included, might say did much to promote. Do we all remember William Hague at the UN promoting a rag bag bunch of thugs who wanted to to take on Assad and almost instantly giving them the recocognition they wanted, even at a time when they didn't recognise themselves.
It's a mess and one that Trump has just made worse.

Yes. It's a bit soon to attribute any shifts in hiring rates to Trump, innit?

When his wall gets going, then he'll have created lots of jobs (for Mexican builders admittedly but jobs just the same). In the meantime, what has he done that caused new jobs to be created that would not have been created if there was a different, or no, President?

@Dave J, I presume he had more info other than what was on T.V that evening. Well, I hope so

Meanwhile, in Sweden a truck kills 5 and the driver runs away

Shall we make one thread on the Syria bombing? http://britishexpats.com/forum/take-.../#post12223876 instead of 2. The other thread is longer at the moment.

I bet Assad shat himself when he heard Canadian PM "condemn" his actions earlier this week.

The UN security council should be ashamed of itself.

Wondering when the Canadian PM will make an announcement 'no worries, Canada will take all the displaced persons'

Let the US attack on Syria continue, just to give the media more air time interviewing the US politicians that are for or against it

I think most civilised countries support retaliation against chemical attacks. War is awful, but there is a line. Similar to hardened criminals in prison beating the crap out of a child molester. It's wrong, but they molested kids so they deserve it.

Re Canada reaction, I read this Canada was briefed on and 'fully supports' U.S. missile strikes against Syria: PM - Politics - CBC News
