Default US Election Debate

I know many won't care but ...

Any thoughts about last night's debate? This is the first one that I had ever watched and, I have to admit, the first time I have ever really seen Obama speak at length.

I thought that Obama's oratory skills were somewhat lacking (for one that has a reputation of being exceptional) and that his peformance was less than stellar. At times, he looked like a chastened schoolboy.

I thought that Romney's performance was far better than I was expecting.

I thought that the appearance of the families at the end was somewhat vomit inducing and I would love to know what their spouses's thoughts were as they greeted one another

Aren't there more than two candidates running for the Presidency?

I once helped out in the 1988 campaign for Ed Winn, the US Socialist Party candidate when I was an undergrad until I was informed in no uncertain terms that my scholarship funding would be revoked if I continued. Plus the guy and his mates were a complete wankers.

Great entertainment value, who knew? can’t wait for the next couple. Just pleased the outcome barely affects me, they both look like poor leadership for the free world.

I saw the first 30 mins or so. Obama seemed ok but sometimes it came over as though he was an economics lecturer giving us the benefit of his wisedom. Romney was better than I would have expected but not really convincing either.

And that's the rub (as another poster has said): is the the best the free world could come up with?

Just because American politicians bandy about phrases like "The Land of the Free", "Leader of the Free World" and "God bless America", doesn't make any of that true, does it?

Having been in Canada for over 30 years and listened to American politics over the TV channels my impression is that Presentation is far more important than Content,

So be carefull about forming your opinion
