I'll be in Manchester soon but never Newcastle.
I doubt this fromage could hold a torch to freshco's marble block cheese now at $4.97/ brick....

Next time (first time?) you're in Newcastle check out the Grainger Market. It makes the St. Lawrence Mkt, look, well, a bit lame really.
Here in France yesterday I bought a cheese I'd never tried before, a Tomme FruiteƩ, which looks as if its been rolled in farmyard excrement but tasted absolutely delicious. Of course you must eat the shit exterior to savour this gem to the full.

If you're ever in Penticton then go to Britannia Pies ... best fresh pork pies I have had in a long time (was there end June). Only available fresh on a Saturday though. Baker (not a Brit - actually from Manitoba!) said they were a pain in the a** to make! He also does curry pies but I didn't try those.

I've noticed that the Cornish pasties are rubbish here. They don't seem to do anything very well.

I couldn't agree more, the pasties you buy from the supermarket here are not good way too dry. The best ones I have found are from Chelsea's Bakery in Kamloops, good pastry and plenty of moisture in the filling $3.75 each. Pasty chips and baked beans one of my favourites. TIP never cook pasty in microwave always cook in oven.
