I don't understand this thread at all. What's it about? And what is RCS?

A Canadian attempt to implement a rather ill conceived and half hearted policy of multi-culturalism. No pork pies. I'm outraged by the insensitivity and the lack of understanding of what British people really eat.

I'm not sure there is anything to understand. Had you ventured down from the lofty heights of academia to visit a supermarket during your sojourn in this country you might have been surprised to find a British supermarket brand name on the shelves. Maybe not.Or perhaps the surfeit of cheese, pate etc you currently have access to has clouded your recollection? It may be sad that I feel excited by the idea, even though I never bought Tesco baked beans when I had daily access to them, but the reason for that reaction is probably a thread better not tugged at.

(I also recently discovered Canadian own brand, but 'made in England' wine gums, resulting in unwise levels of consumption)

Covered by "depending" innit. The important thing is that, in the UK, things cost what they say they cost. A child can know if he or she can buy something.

In Canada they routinely cost more than they say. If you have a $2 coin you cannot expect to be able to buy a $2 chocolate bar as, depending on the government's categorization of the chocolate and the shopkeeper's interpretation of that categorization, it may be subject to tax at some rate or another. The posted price is moot anyway because it'll say chocolate, $8/lb, but the package will say 148.37 grams and you'll be pissing around for ages trying to determine if 148.37 divided into 8 equals $2 or not.

It's no good giving children pocket money here, they need an Amex for their sweeties.

Weetabix just got bought, a few months ago, by the US cereal comany Post, so I think there is a good chance that Weetabix will soon be sold wherever Post cereals are sold.

Weetabix UK ingredients https://www.weetabix.co.uk/our-produ...assic/weetabix

Wholegrain Wheat (95%), Malted Barley Extract, Sugar, Salt, Niacin, Iron, Riboflavin (B2), Thiamin (B1), Folic Acid.

Weetabix US ingredients Weetabix Weetabix Product Information

Wholegrain Wheat (95%), Malted Barley Extract, Sugar, Salt, Niacin, Iron, Riboflavin (B2), Thiamin (B1), Folic Acid.

I've been eating Weetabix since I was 2 years old, it tastes no different here.

Kids haven't said it's any different. Packaging is the same too. (Canadian special K was firmly rejected. So not all brands stay the same)

True. Even between the US and Canada. Corn Pop cereal in Canada is totally different and no good. Much prefer the US version.

I wasn't even aware that there is (already) a US Weetabix. I think I have only seen it for sale in the US once in 15 years. I presume that will change as Post takes control.

I miss Weetabix, it was probably my favourite cereal in the UK (well that or Shreddies) but not enough to make $6-$7 a box look like a fair price!
