Blooming 'eck! Looks expensive. We have a guy here who imports UK foods and for example, genuine Weetabix 24s are equivalent of $6.89 , Tesco/ASDA wheat biscuits equivalent to $4.43. Even in Rustans - our John Lewis - Waitrose wheat biscuits are equivalent to $5.89 but for some reason the French (Champion) equivalent to Sugar Puffs are only $2.55! (I used a factor of 0.0246 to convert from Pesos to CAN$ based on todays exchange rate on XE.com)
Are taxes that high in Canada?

Retail prices in Canada are shown before the tax is applied, something priced at $2 actually costs $2.30 or more, depending.

Your comments are somewhat misleading. Not all food products exact sales tax.

"Real" food does not have sales tax applied ................ at least in BC

"Junk" food does ...................

so no tax on cereals ........... real food

sales tax on chips (crisps) ............. junk food

I imagine something similar applies to other provinces

Sadly not. Just dry stuff and tins.

No booze aisle either 🤔

Prepared foods and meals are taxed, ingredients are not. Buy a prepared bagged salad, you pay tax, buy salads and mix it at home, you don't.

I'd forgotten that! It's been 5 years since I was last in Vancouver. I do remember buying a bag of mini carrots (from US) for, IIRC, about $6.00 and on getting back to UK found SAME carrots - same size bag, same packer in US - for £1.25 in ASDA!

I had to google this but I must say I'm with you.

I started off feeling cheered by this thread, then I realised how far away you are, and I've never even heard of 'Save on'.:(

I did have a perfectly edible pork pie from RCS last week though. (disclaimer - my standards may have fallen over the past 6 years:unsure:)
