I know that but obviously others don't and perhaps that is why they are afraid of Trump.
I wonder if its too late for Frank Underwood to put his name on the ballot.

They'd be better off with Frank Sidebottom.

This is a good take on what it could well be like of Trump did become president. Canada would be in trouble after Trump messes up the "shared economy"

Many people like his straight talking, although a good thing in someways, i feel, this would also be his downfall....or the US's downfall, as due to his complete lack of diplomacy, then yes he could provoke a foreign war by accident. I agree.

I do see where some people draw the Rob Ford simularity, there would never be a shortage of comedy, but this would come at a dangerous price.

To be honest I dont know enough about Ted Cruz to comment on his level of lunacy.

He's a religious fundamentalist and not a Muslim one; that makes him a poor choice to deal with ISIS.

A laminated abomination but not untypical of her era (consider Ena Sharples), my grandmother's barnet was similarly permed and lacquered, Harper and Trump are not follically typical of their generation.

If Trump wins somehow, hopefully the congress will be controlled by democrats and well a good congress will keep the president in check.

Not even sure Trump himself fully understands how restricted the president is in doing things and how much he does need congress to really get anything meaningful done.

If it is Trump hopefully the democrats have enough seats in congress to override vetoes.

I don't fear Trump as I know its basically not possible to do most of what he spews, and I just don't see him winning a general. And polls in primary season are so biased and one sided they only reflect how potential republican voters feel.

As an example he can say all he wants about changing the constitution, its not going to happen for any of the BS he spews, no way he will get support of the 37 or 38 states needed, and not even sure he realizes how hard it is to change that document.

I have heard that one of the reasons Trump does so well in the primaries is that Democrats are registering as Republicans just so they can vote for him.

That would be interesting. In an open primary state one doesn't need to re-register to a party, but I am not sure how many open primary states exist and how many have voted thus far.

I vote in a big but useless state as it will go democrat and it will go Clinton, Sanders likely won't even be in the race by June unless something big happens.

I just registered well re-registered since I moved. Have to re-register anytime something changes on your voter record. I am a bit excited they can now send the ballot by email which should reduce delays, in last election, I barely got it, and had to send back Fedex overnight.

It would be a bit like Boris becoming PM.

Or Jeremy Corbyn;) The voters will decide not us Canadians so we don't really get a say. We could do the Canadian thing and write a strongly worded letter to the Merican people telling them why they should not vote for him and we promise to spend more money in their country and offer them free poutine on their next visit washed down with a Timmies double double.

I fully applaud you on the "us Canadian" front....but once having reached the acme and gaining Citizenship, this surely doesn't mean that 'life goes on' and your other faculties are short circuited when it comes to international perspectives?

Unfortunately, the idea of democracy doesn't reach far, so even the thought of anyone having their say seems pointless in some parts of the world, here in Canada surely apathetic thoughts need to be discouraged actively?

Well not really. Trump going from 'Reality' TV game show host to President of the USA is a bit different to decades as an MP to opposition leader to PM.

There's a certain logic to one, a series of steps as it were, compared to something ridiculous. Imagine Hughie Green or Davina McCall becoming PM after their stints hosting Opportunity Knocks and Big Brother. At least Hughie was sincere.

I think Trump has actually more chance of becoming US President than Jeremy Corbyn British PM! that guy really is from another planet!

I once thought Ronald Reagan to be a dangerous joke candidate. Now, by Republican standards, he seems a thoughtful moderate.

It's that already. Trump or not, the repubs are done. I expect that Hilary will saunter in come November with a similar result to Obama in 2012.

While I can certainly understand your position, I wouldn't be so sure, there's been a Democrat in office for the last eight years, it'd be surprising they'd tolerate another four years of them controlling the WH. Bush 'won' the 2000 and 2004 Presidency while losing California, NY and Pennsylvania. It could well come down to Florida again.

I don't know enough how about how it all works technically to make a more nuanced prediction based on whose votes come from where. Maybe it's a mistake, but I'm sort of assuming that this will play out like it would if similar events were happening in the UK. Specifically undignified party infighting of the sort they are currently engaging in has to be a bit off-putting to ordinary voters - even American ones.

Was that the Florida scandal where incorrect counting of the votes made the difference in winning and losing?

Presumably that's why you had it as 'won' rather than won. ;)

As I understand it, Trump has the highest support among Democrats since Reagan, and many Sanders supporters would vote for Trump if Clinton is the Democrat nominee. This is why the Republican establishment are scared of him: not because they think he'd lose, but because they think he'd win.

They'd much rather have Clinton in the White House, because she'll guarantee support and donations to the Republicans for eight years to come.

I still think he should pick Sanders for his VP, then Clinton would be toast. Plus it would result in a complete meltdown of the Republican establishment.

Well, your post was positing scenarios where Hilary doesn't win. I misread that as your view on what would happen rather than you just playing devils advocate. Because of this I was just suggesting a friendly inconsequential wager. But yes, if you think she's going to win it would be a bit pointless.
