Default Toronto best place to live in the world...

Seems pretty good to me...as long as I can escape to the sun in the winter months.

Toronto best place to live in world, Montreal second: The Economist | Lifestyle from CTV News

I spent 5 hours there once waiting for a Via Rail train to BC, could not wait to get out there...

I didn't see the appeal in the city that others seem, just one big massive urban sprawl.

Living 45 mins from NYC for 18 years...living and visiting are entirely different. We are early retirees so we probably see T.O. through different eyes.

We live on the Harbourfront...we love to walk by the lake year round. Bars, restaurants, shops etc are just a short walk away. I imagine very different from arriving in Union Station every day for work.

Most likely. I don't like large city's which is probably why NY, and Toronto are not places I have enjoyed.

I am more a medium sized city kind of person, Vancouver fits that well.

I also need to be near the ocean, growing up so close, living inland just isn't the same...lol

I did like Whitby, ON 1 ish east of Toronto.

I can agree with this conclusion!

Haha though if you look at the index, Toronto didn't top any category, was just consistent so does this make it an average city

There's two Torontos. The old city and it's suburbs- high park, East York, etc, even the little corner of Scarberia I occupy. This is a pretty good city, not really excellent in any way, but a very easy place to live in, and there's a recognisable European link.

Then there's the 905.... the sprawl of cookie cutters... with baby public transport systems. You could be anywhere in North America, and the links to Europe and major cities are tenuous. As you drive everywhere there's no pub culture at all. In fact in terms of culture its like Milton Keenes with trucks.

Just to clarify I'm talking about the Toronto 905 here. I have a soft spot for Hamilton; Whitby does indeed have a touch of charm; Burlington is nice but way too expensive. Barrie is beautiful in summer.

But those endless stretches of dormitory burbs and stripmalls.... shoot me now.

PS: For reference I'm on city #5, fourth country

PPS: I also think Toronto is a victim of overheated expansion caused by Montreal's ongoing self destruction)

Distorted headlining from CTV.

It's actually the "Safe Cities Index".

That is an important factor for many immigrants who come here but should not be confused with "Best Place to Live In The World". Which is somewhat misleading......I don't think any sane person with infinite financial resource would pick Toronto to live in.

I have. A couple of good nights at the local Wetherspoon and Club next door when I worked for UK's number one property website for properties for sale and to rent

I broadly agree with this. I like Toronto, at least I like the bit south of the 401 between Bathurst and the DVP, outside of that, yes, it's like Milton Keynes (and I have a work contract in MK and visit now and then). I love the market but, in truth, it's not better than the market in Seattle and it's not a patch on the one in Camden. Toronto's ok, quite nice really.

Barrie though, catch yourself on! This morning people here were debating whether or not Cambridge is the ugliest place in Ontario. "What about Barrie?" I said, and they fell silent.

I know some people who moved to Barrie. They chose their house because they could walk to Wal Mart. Enough said.

I do find TO to be rather an ugly city. Then again, I've probably only been to the ugly bits. All cities have them.

The architecture in Toronto is ugly.

There is quite a bit of variety when you get beyond that.
