Toilet cubicles...
I noticed when I was in Canada that there is an inch or so gap around the door of toilet cubicles giving everyone access to your best poo face... What is that about?

Its the same all over North America
Someone told me it was so Paramedics or suchlike could get into them easily if the occupant needed them
The bottom of the sides and door are very high too compared to the UK
I do like the automatic flushes installed on 99% of public toilets in NA though

I couldn't use those cubicles, I could see straight out at everyone washing their hands etc.!

Don't go to prison. You will be on display to everyone - even on camera. They all seem to survive though. Moral - if you are a wimp, try to stay out of prison.

I remember some at LA airport where the tops of the dividers and doors were below head height. Probably designed to shame the bladder shy users who need privacy but want to stand.

In male toilet facilities on some US Interstates there are no doors on cubicles. Presumably to discourage homosexual activity. Can't/unable to comment of female facilities.

Re: Toilet cubicles...
I've used public facilities in many countries/states/provinces and have never felt anyone outside the cubicle has any interest in watching me and vice versa. They're not the type of place in which most people loiter, IMX.

I don't know that partition gaps, or absent doors, would have any influence on this sort of thing.

Re: Toilet cubicles...
I'm afraid I took a passing interest in two chaps in the cubicle in a Home Depot (Orangeville or Guelph, I don't remember which). The door was open and they were noisily engaged in "homosexual activity". That's not something I would cross the road to watch but in a "one stall, one box" facility it would have been difficult to be unaware of it and, well, Home Depot is a pretty improbable location for cruising. I stood there gobsmacked until it struck me that I'd better close my mouth.

The top of the door and cubicle is also very low, in the US at least. Most cubicles IME have a top edge that is barely chin-height for me!
