Hi,
For ticks I use a Tick Remover. The 'V' shaped prongs are placed gently round the tick where it has attached its self & then you gently turn it (like you're unscrewing) until the tick comes out - usually still alive. I always wear gloves & then dispose of it carefully - usually squished in kitchen/loo roll & then in a bag & straight in the wheelie bin. |

Not that I'm not constantly itching, but every time I read a post on this thread it sets me off again!!!!!!! I've just spent 40 mins massaging one of my dogs - he's the only one who's up for a body massage (doubling as a 'tick check'). I used a tea tree base for my massage and hope this will have some effect. I thought my foxy would be up for it but he left after 2 minutes (which is why Flynn's 10 min massage became 30 - he keeps coming back! :D) |

I love the look of this device - it's just what I need to take the guesswork out of how I should tackle a tick. Did you get it from your vet?
They are brilliant for getting the whole tick out. I got mine from the big pet store we have in town - i've since seen them for sale at our vets. Only a couple of quid. HTH :) |

I was judging at a dog show in Missouri a few years ago. After the show I was in my hotel room getting ready to go out for dinner. Standing in the bathroom, in the buff, I was looking in the mirror and saw something black on my boob, I glanced down and  identified an ENORMOUS (well it was on my boob girls...)
tick, I leapt about a bit and swatted my boobs some. When my heart had calmed down a bit, and I had stopped hyperventilating (brown paper bags really do help :rofl:) I thought I had better find the bloddy thing and dispose of it. It was NOWHERE TO BE SEEN...I was not about to go out and leave this thing in my bathroom so I got down on my hands and knees to search better, this was when I discovered that it was nothing if not industrious, it was climbing up the inside of my thigh :( at this point, I found that in another life I could easily have been a top class athlete, from all fours to standing in less than the blink of an eye, whilst simultaneously swatting for England (at that time.....probably would be Canada now) the tick, not to be defeated went spinning from thigh to toe, where it clung doggedly while I danced some wild dance never to be repeated (I hope) I finally removed the thing with eyebrow tweezers and made sure it was dead before flushing it down that good old tick disposal unit found in all good hotel bathrooms  I have in my time removed probably hundreds of ticks from my various animals, and have no problem at all doing so..........but my god, when I found the thing on ME I was (thank goodness I was in the room on my own, my oh would still be dining out on it now) absolutely horrified!! |

Re: Ticks
Advice please! Esme (the real one whose name I stole!) has a big boil like inflamed spot on her shoulder the size of a loonie. It's been bleeding - I never saw her scratch it or I would have been alerted to the possible presence of tickus irritus. Should I be worried? It's not a spot where I have removed a tick so I guess she scratched it herself and/or it's where the big tick I found on the floor a couple of days ago was. Not sure if there's any tick left in though there is a black spot on it......
I found tickus crawlius on a coathanger in my wardrobe today. For crying out loud, is nowhere sacred? I haven't been in my bedroom for days (the dogs sleep in there, I've locked myself in a dog free room). Has the thing crawled all the way into my wardrobe and up my clothes? How do I know it didn't bring its brothers and sisters with it? Can ticks live in a house like fleas do? JUST WHEN YOU THINK IT'S SAFE TO GO BACK IN THE KITCHEN...... |

No! I didn't hang anything up - I haven't been in the room for aeons.... I only went in coz I'm off out to a BBQ and needed something nice to wear. I was looking at my clothes, having touched nothing and I just saw it crawling away! Needless to say, what I am now wearing is not from the wardrobe!!!! |

I'm not sure if they're not hanging around in pairs... often when I find an engorged one I find a tiny one and I think someone told me only the females engorge themselves (there's a joke in here about humans but I'll resist ) so maybe they've got a fella under the thumb with them?
Who knows??!?! |
