Something like that one might expect to have been made aware of previously. You know, you'd think parents might have said so.
My Mum died when I was 9 and my maternal Grandfather (the one who served in WW1) cut all ties with us. It wasn't something my Dad would have known, nor something my Uncle (my Mum's brother) would have thought to tell us. My cousin (from my Mum's side) told me yesterday, in response to a post I made on FB regarding Remembrance Day.

They're only a flight away... but it may not be a good financial idea...

Not when the flight, car hire and possibly a hotel factor in.

However I’ve been offered some ‘goodies’ from there if I paint a picture of a friends dog. So as long as I do a good job on it .

Something I didn't know until it was too late is that the blade on my mitre saw is slightly out of alignment. A degree on a 12-inch cut is enough to bugger things up.

I didn't realise until I'd cut a load of rectangles, which turned out to be parallelograms.

Anyone want some firewood?

At least it was only the pine I wrecked. I'd have been rather narked to write off the expensive bit of bamboo.

Hope and danger.

I was at a conference in Vancouver a couple of weeks ago. I had lunch with a guy I hadn't seen for a couple of years. The previous time I'd seen him, he was retiring and taking up woodwork.

Over lunch, I noticed his hand.

'Table saw?' I asked.

'Yup'.

He was bloody lucky to get away with 14 stitches and not four very short fingers.

Fortunately my mishap with an electric saw only involved cutting through the top of the coffee table I was using when cutting laminate flooring planks.
