100% agree with you about the gherkin but 100% disagree with you about the mac and cheese....home made of course, not Kraft dinner.

Depends on the curry.

Goes great with ones made with curry powder. Even better with sliced banana added to the plate. Yum.

Not good with the Thai and Indian curries.

I once brought some cheap own brand curry sauce - the basics range or something when I was at University and I was shocked and appalled that there were sultanas in it.

As you know already I don't like sultanas or currents in anything [/QUOTE]

Agree. (Sultanas and raisins can be omitted from most foods IMO.)

Also hate onion pieces in a curry, especially a CTM. M&S right now does what would be a nice CTM, but totally spoils it by a liberal inclusion of grated onions. Why?!

Conversely, there's curry that's not called curry - Butter Chicken.

I bought one once that was almost as hot as a vindaloo I once ate that was like having my lips slit with a razor.

The Butter Chicken? Yes.

It's not bad in the jars and there's even a half decent powder. I'm not sure what this one was, I just remember there were two components. Sauce mix and spice mix, I suppose.

It was way too hot. I managed a portion from the result but then I had to add something to the leftovers to take the edge off.

You don't know hot. I made a lentil, chickpea and spinach curry last night and added seven fresh Thai chilis with seeds plus two heaping teaspoons of Cayenne chilli powder. It definitely called for the lift-clean-and-place rule for some relief this morning.

I suspect they do in Toronto.

I bought a sauce jar of Coconut Curry a few weeks ago. That was quite a hot one and it turns out the maker is a group of restaurants in Toronto who have a few sauces for retail.

The Indian restaurants we visit don't have a problem producing hot curries, you've just got to ask for it and not stick to their standard mild/medium/hot scale.
