Terrorist to get 10.5m reward
Arhhhh ! And a apology from Canada !! So annoying
He should not see a penny, the reward money should be given to his victims who did actually win a sue against this guy but never received a penny since.

A badly wounded Khadr was captured by U.S. troops following a firefight at a suspected al-Qaida compound that resulted in the death of an American special forces soldier, U.S. army Sgt. Christopher Speer. Khadr was accused of throwing the grenade that killed Speer.
Although the evidence was flimsy, Khadr pleaded guilty in 2010 to charges that included Speer’s murder and was sentenced to a further eight years in custody. He later said he confessed to get out of Guantanamo.

Ive read that his lawyers are surprised that the settlement has been made public. Somebody leaked.
It's not a question of whether or not he is a terrorist or guilty but that his Charter rights as a child and a Canadian were abused.

He was imprisoned for throwing a grenade during the firefight that resulted in the death of an American soldier. At the time, he was 15 years old and had been brought to Afghanistan by his father, who was affiliated with an extreme religious group.

He went off with his terrorist father with the sole purpose of killing. He succeeded in downing an American and receiving consequential punishment. It is to them he should be looking for recompense but his chances there are zero to nil so sued Canada, probably knowing we're a soft touch. I'm not happy about the payout at all but if it ends up with the American victim's wife I won't feel quite as screwed without getting kissed first.

Bollocks. 15 years old, building I E D's, throwing hand grenades...killing, maiming.
Canada, only country a convicted, bomb making terrorist killer can become a victim and be compensated! Liberal to the point of absurdity! Pathetic!

Try some background reading.
Why will Omar Khadr receive $10.5M? Because the Supreme Court ruled his rights were violated - Politics - CBC News

Widow, injured soldier's court filing seeks money federal government is expected to give Khadr - Politics - CBC News
If not, he should be made to do the right thing as the US did fix his injuries and saved his useless life

If any other kid did something criminal or illegal, no matter what it is or how distateful it seems, they should still go through the correct legal route to be judged on their actions. If it was your kid? My kid?
We can all pontificate on what we think a 15 year old knows or doesn't know, how mature or criminal they are. But that is of no relevance. The LAW clearly lays out the ages and suitable courts in relation to juveniles and adults. Simples.
I personally find the sum of money distasteful, but the Supreme Court made their ruling - the same court every one of us would and could use should we want to.

Hopefully he will do the right thing with his wind fall

Actually the USA didn't fix Khadr's injuries. He's blind in one eye and has shrapnel in the other. He had reconstructive surgery in Alberta on his shoulder. He's also had long standing infections that needed treatment.

If someone has a quantifiable loss - like a business worth $XXX or a higher earner guaranteed a salary for the length of a contract that can't be completed for whatever reason, that's something that can be catered for.
I don't know how someone can be compensated for a period in custody if you can't reasonably show what earnings potential was lost. Obviously you can arrange it so that medical needs will be met and that seems to have been done. And will be.
One might even set them up for life at a comfortable level.
But this award. He's 30. If he lives for 50 years it's over $200k for each year. If he puts it in a high interest account it gives over $200k a year in interest.
This would more than pay nursing care - which isn't needed. It would pay for living at the world famous Carlton Hotel in Cannes, France. That's not needed either.
The guy has identified a career he'd like to follow. Maybe enable that.
This sum seems beyond reason.
Average income in Canada? Maybe give him that for the rest of his life?
