Teletext Archaeologist
Recently I listened to a fascinating discussion on the radio in which a man (the Teletext Archaeologist) was explaining how he had discovered that contemporaneous Ceefax pages could be successfully extracted from old VHS cassette recordings. If anyone wishes to take a blocky-text wander down Memory Lane here's a link to just some of the archives... (they don't all work for me)
I loved Ceefax. Booked holidays on it, "watched" football matches on it, checked the weather forecast on it, it was even how I learned that Kurt Cobain was dead.

Re: Teletext Archaeologist
I used to love playing Bamboozle (quiz game)
I also know I sent in something to be written up (a message or something) and it was published on teletext - I know I took a photo of the TV screen when this happened. Where the photo is and what it was about, I can’t remember.
good times though lol

Re: Teletext Archaeologist
Pre internet days, I used pages 340 - 350 to follow cricket scores.
You could even watch telly & have the test score in the corner of the screen

Re: Teletext Archaeologist
I remember using teletext to check flight status and traffic before heading out to the airport in pre-internet / smartphone days.
Looking at it now, it does bring back a warm fuzzy feeling.

Re: Teletext Archaeologist
I recall back in 1994 listening to radio show where some reporter had just come back from a tech show and was waxing absolutely f--ing lyrical about something called the "world wide web" ... it sounded very promising at the time. A few months later, it turns out it was indeed quite the innovation.

When I was working as a geophysicist in the 90s we had been using t'interweb since 1993, possibly earlier (my memory is hazy)
