Teen and broken IPOD.....Please help!

'Mum, My IPODS broken I need a new one - can you get me one?'

I'll not let on how the rest of that conversation went - the thing is not that old though:frown:

Ready for the technical speak?????

It's a 4gb NANO. The button and the circle thing that has the menu/ffw/rwd/stop/pause buttons on has somehow got jammed and wont do anything. She can turn up the volume but can't go to the menu to do whatever it is you have to do. Does anyone know how this can be fixed - or even if I can take it somewhere to be fixed?

Thank you!

Take it to the apple store? They have 'genius' people who can fix it. Plus if it's still under warranty it'll be free...or they'll just give you a new one.

If you go to the apple website too they'll have details for sending it to them if you don't have an apple store near you.

Thank you. It's over 12 months old - she got it last christmas so I don't think it will have a warranty - just gonna google apple stores now.

They'll probably still be able to fix it...might cost more to fix than just getting a new one though. Good luck :)

Try puting it back to factory settings. Hook it up to the computer, open iTUNES and let it do an update. Sometimes doing that rectifies such problems. Mine jammed recently and doing that corrected it.

We'll give that a go 1st then! If not she'll just have to use her shuffle again.

You might try posting this in the Lab section of the forum. You never know, there are many technical folks around and one just may be able to help you. Its certainly worth a try.

Before you spend a wad on an Apple take a look at the SanDisk Sansa. I got fed up with ipods that conked out on me. Two of them. They are overpriced and not as good as the Sansa. The toggle switch on the ipod is a weak point as is the screen. The warrenty is nothinng to write home about either. I got a 4 gig sansa for about $70 from Future Shop. You can get them in most places. Very good value for your $$ unless of course you just have to have the Apple brand name.

This happens with my sons from time to time and he's now got it sussed!

The answer is to hold down the middle button AND the top (I think its the menu button?) at the same time and the screen should revert back to the menu...

Hope it works for you too!

My granddaughter's had the same problem and resetting it didn't work. I phoned Apple and they sent a courier with a box and I just put the iPod in the box and sent it back. They replaced the iPod (I know because I had the serial number of the old one) and sent it back again - all for nothing.

Blimey my son couldn't cope if he's ipod broke. I think the headphones are glued to his ears. :D

As someone else suggested, if you haven't done so already you could also try posting this in the Lab as a lot of techies hang out in there and someone might be able to point you in the right direction.
