Target - is this a bluebird of happiness?
I'm getting a Target in mid October, and I think Bristol is getting one too. Canadians at work tell me that Canadian Targets' are rubbish in comparison to those in the states....never having been in one I won't be able to judge. Are they OK?...the Zellers that it replaced really was a bit dire. I don't like Walmart, but I like Costco (sorry Oink:p) do you think that I might like a Target?

Re: Target - is this a bluebird of happiness?
In comparison to Walmart they are much more pleasant, they don't feel as basic and don't have mile long checkout lines, but have roughly the same prices. I agree that the Canadian ones made some stupid decisions, for instance changing their Market Pantry Coleslaw recipe from the really nice one in the US to a green mush one in Canada - I have no idea why they did that. They also lack US products that I enjoy such as Quorn and the smaller Starbucks Frappuccino drinks, but they're just a grocery store, not a US product importer so that's to be expected.
Their selection of home stuff is very good, in fact they make some of the nicest reasonably priced bedding I've found. Their extra-soft bedsheet is extremely good. |

I really like Target, but have only visited them in the US, and generally newer ones at that. There was a thread on this a while back and the view seemed to be that the Zellers replacement Targets were nothing special.

As long as you don't go in expecting the exact items you find in the US and remember your in Canada, you will be fine.

I'm sorry I seemed to have missed that one, but I've just searched it... Yes I see what you mean, possibly not great for haute couture but not bad for pots and bedding.

I'm a reasonably frequent customer of Target in the US. I went to one in Canada where they wouldn't accept my credit card. "It works in Buffalo" I said "Yes, but the stores have been adapted for Canada, they're not quite the same" said the fluttering advisory woman. I left my stuff on the till thinking that I don't like shopping enough to deal with difficulty.
