I've been here a year and my local friends now know what I'm saying but I worked in an office for years so can put on a telephone voice to be understood. My OH however partners an English guy so still speaks with a broad Welsh accent and can only just been understood.

I recently started work in a office here, thinking I would be ok because of my telephone voice, I soon learned that it's not enough just to enunciate, as a result I hear myself slipping into "an accent" whatever that is. I am the only British person working in the hotel but there are many African and Asian people, my office is staffed with Canadians and the majority of callers are North American.

I laugh when answering the phone and the person on the other side hesitates, some have commented that they thought they'd dialled and overseas number :rofl:

Not sure what will happen when we eventually get there,

i always tend to pick up the accent of whomever im talking to, i don't mean to :o i hope i don't loose my English accent,
Not sure how OH will go on i can't even understand him half the time ;) from up north, im from down south :rofl:
