Stuck at Pearson
Since 6 am this morning
should have been 9 am flight
tech issue
Then of course we hit the " we can't take off because of Heathrow curfew at other end"
New estimated time is take off at 6 . Looking at weather outside.
Not convinced.
I have checked baggage so wasn't allowed to leave airport to check back in again this evening.
Feeling shitty because it's not like I'm going back for a holiday.
Dad's had to stop his cancer treatment so I'm assuming this is end game stuff.
Just want to be there
Any kind soul able to tell me if European comp regs apply to air Canada flight from Toronto to Heathrow
So far been offered 20% of next flight. With all kinds of small print

Re: Stuck at Pearson
Sadly, it appears not. Flights into EU countries on EU carriers, or flights on any carrier originating from EU airports. So a flight originating outside the EU on a non-EU carrier are not eligible.
V sorry to hear that your dad is moving to what sounds like palliative care. That sucks at the best of times (been there...) let alone when you're being dicked around by the airline and/or the weather. I hope you get over the pond soon and it's not too utterly awful when you get there.

Re: Stuck at Pearson
Sorry your having trouble. As said above flights on non-EU carriers leaving a non-Eu airport dont get the EU compensation.
downside to arrival curfews they end up making delays even longer.
Hope the rest of your travel goes more smoothly for you.

Thanks. I was hoping that because it terminated in EU that I might have a hope.
I'm not necessarily angry at AC per se. I get technical shot happens. I get the curfew is beyond their control. But lack of information .as per usual is the issue.
I had to explain the Heathrow curfew to many an angry passenger because noone explained why we had to delay until the evening to take off.

Re: Stuck at Pearson
I take it Toronto has a segregated international terminal where your not able to just leave without needing someone (airport workers) let you back out?
One upside to US airports generally but not always using the same terminal and gates for international departures as they do domestic, so flight is massively delayed, nothing stopping passenger from leaving the secure area, just walk out the exit.
AC needs to up their customer service. When one of the US airlines we handle had a 14 hour delay they provided passengers with meal vouchers, and any passenger who wanted to leave was permitted to go through Canada Customs and back to a hotel or home, or wander the city while they waited, most stayed as they didn't want to go through CBSA and then back through US Customs.
Hopefully you will end up leaving at 1900.
