Still going strong...
Once-famous people who die, are celebrated in obituaries - and we think, Gosh, I thought he (she) died years ago! So I believe we should celebrate them while they're still alive. We can still think, Gosh, I thought he (she) died years ago, but it would be a kindness to remember now, before it's too late.
Let me begin with two of my all-time favourite characters from Canadian TV shows, Red Green and Super Dave Osborne. They have given me innumerable laughs, and I'm sorry they're not still doing their shows. Their real names are different from their stage names, but I don't care. Bob Einstein (the other Einstein, I guess) and Steve Smith (not to mention his nephew Patrick McKenna; it's best not to mention him...) might never have made me laugh in real life; I'll never know. But their characters did, over and over again. I hope there are others reading this Maple Leaf segment who will take pleasure in knowing that those people are still among us. |

Red Green as of last year was still touring doing stand up comedy.
He has been appearing at the Migration Hall in Kingsville Ontario for as long as I can remember. |

Re: Still going strong...
Kenneth Kaunda, former President of Zambia. I thought he died many years ago, but is still going strong, apparently.

Re: Still going strong...
Patty Hearst, for goodness sake! I suppose one has to be of a certain age to know who she was - for a while there, the most famous kidnap victim in the world. Whom most of us felt sorry for, and forgave her cooperation with her abductors - because Stockholm Syndrome and all that. Is there anybody else in this Maple Leaf section who does remember her?
