Well out here in deepest NB our postie delivers into a communal mailbox at the end of the road and we all have to trek down to pick up our mail (ok ok so we drive down, it can still be a trek).

Started snowing here (Island View NB) around 11:46am now snowing steadily. We have had a weather warning for 40cm's so snow shovels at the ready and raring to go. I suppose I could just watch the TV all afternoon.... now where were those Vicar of Dibley DVD's...

Ha! Just opened a Sol, the perfect beer after a vigorous work out (and walking to the barn with two buckets of water through 3' of snow is certainly a proper work out).

The snow's pretty much stopped here. I guess I'll clear it after lunch and then wait for the next wave.

I was just looking at the local conditions for Toronto, Peterborough, Kingston and Ottawa.

It appears Ottawa is getting hammered at this time, three straight hours of heavy snow. :eek:

No word from Souvenir, Steve666 or Wannabe.

Edit: 1:00 pm observations now out Ottawa still heavy snow (four hours now) visibility .2km, .1miles:eek::eek:

Further Edit: 2:00 pm now out Ottawa still heavy snow it's now five straight hours. I honestly don't think I've ever seen heavy snow reported for that long a period before.

The major roads around here are closed for lack of visibility but then they often are, the "road closed" signs are permanent and illuminated as required.

I am pleased to report that the near-crisis is over and, once again, it is a-snowing not in Richmond Hill.

With dextrous application of shovel and blower, Number 2 Son and I have just finished the clean up. Now we are ready for the plows to come along and build metre high walls at the end of the drive.

Snow shoved aside. Salmon wonderful. About to venture out on to nominally closed roads to get more diesel for the tractor - you can't run a John Deere without a Beetle to fetch the fuel.

Good luck with that. I've just got back from the (very short) drive to the Mac's to pick up more smokes....hairy to say the least.

And it's started to snow again.

I'm pleased about the salmon though.

This snow is serious here in Ottawa...my weekly indoor soccer game here in west end Ottawa (just north of Scotiabank Place) has been cancelled. Never had that happen before.

We were inspired to try curing salmon by that served at cruikshank's. A trip to the market for salmon, dill and creme fraiche, a bit of rubbing, a lot of waiting and then, wow, divine!

Gas station surprisingly crowded for the roads all being closed. Since they're closed they haven't been ploughed and are as bad as I've driven on. I was glad of the front wheel drive.
