Default Son going home :(

Well thats my son going home next Saturday back to Scotland, has anyone had this problem .He is 17 and wants to finish his 6th year in the UK,we are just hoping he comes back next year as we firmly believe the opportunities are way more over here than in the UK .
Has anyone else ran into this problem and if so how did it eventually pan out.

What visa did you all come over on?

At his age, finishing up high school education in the system he knows may well be the best. Very tough, I know, to "let" a teenager loose. Is he going back to stay with family?

Maybe the lad don'ts wear rose coloured glasses and as such his reality is not warped by the trauma of personal history?

Never been in this situation but I definitely disagree with the opinion that there are way more opportunities here than in UK. If he chooses to stay there he'll be fine and could very likely earn more than the average Canadian.

Number of opportunities in which location rather depends on his chosen career path.

Two of my three children grew up and emigrated. I wouldn't say that's a problem; I did the same.

I'm sure they both did it for the parents.

Actually, I relate to your point very well. Both of my OH's parents emigrated even younger than we did. The French one first to London where she met the other one and then they both pissed off to Africa for well over a decade and a half.

In those cases, both did it to avoid their parents.

Hi Oink,
our rose tinted glasses wore off way back ,we see the reality here and are still going to give it a go.I am lucky that I work for a good company and have a fair salary. That all comes into question when my family end up going home .

Hi Gozit,

If what i have planned for him he will make a lot more than the average Brit, but money is not everything .He will decide his future i can only try and guide him and support his decisions.

Hi Aviator,
we are located in Ottawa but I am fortunate enough to be able to live anywhere in Canada and still work for the same company, but we would eventually have moved out to BC.Oil and Gas is his interests but who knew what they wanted to do at 17 .
