I seen a link online saying Expats can vote in the UK election if you have been out of the country for less than 15 years...
I cannot vote here.... yet but I dont think I will bother vote for the Uk when I haven't not lived there for the last 3 years. what are other peoples Opinions?? Will you vote still... even if you havent been there for years? It will most likely be a conservative vote for a fairly safe conservative seat in the north east of England (yes there is such a thing). I recall the previous labour approach in the seat was pretty unappealing class war based. If I lived in Surrey still it would be liberal (token vote against local conservative landslide) and if in Dundee West it would be labour to stop the SNP tosser with the goatee. I thought Cleggy did ok in the leaders debate. Another conservative/liberal coalition would probably work out for the best but seems a bit unlikely. |

You realise you live in a country that screens for HIV & doesn't allow people that have it to emigrate there. What's wrong with asking for the same system in the UK?
The problem with what he's asking is that aids victims are almost always coming from countries where there are humanitarian issues- war, famine, genocide, etc. It's a cruel and racist policy. People who claim Farage isn't racist need their head feeling... |

People who claim Farage isn't racist need their head feeling... People coming from war torn countries seeking asylum would not be affected, they come under a different set of rules. We are talking about general immigrants here. It is unbelievably offensive that you would call this a 'racist policy', aids does not discriminate or have borders, it affects many westerners too, therefore race doesn't come into it. You are adding to the stigma that it's an African disease. |

Yes he is asking for the same system. If in that 3+ years before (presumably) you obtained PR, you had been diagnosed with HIV would you have been entitled to free treatment or even been allowed to stay? Your application would've most likely been rejected on the grounds that you are medically inadmissible, unless there were extenuating circumstances.

But yes I could have moved to canada, riddled with all kinds of infectious and contagious diseases, and received teatment, simply on the back of a TWP. I could have had all kinds of criminal convictions, dozens of kids, sent all my benefits back to the UK, and it would all have been Kosher. But I'm white, so it's ok. I've had immigration debates with Canadians who've told me that I "don't count" because I'm white. Of course it's racist. The only people who think it's isn't are those who simply don't like thinking of themselves as racist. |

Nice try. How many "general immigrants" with HIV/AIDS emigrate to the uk? Not enough to be statistically relevant to the d3bate.
Does your opinion count as a fact? The point is the NHS shouldn't be free for the world to use no matter what illness they have, there just isn't the money/resources for it. I can't for the life of me understand why that is so hard for people to get their head around But yes I could have moved to canada, riddled with all kinds of infectious and contagious diseases, and received teatment, simply on the back of a TWP. No you couldn't have, the federal or provincial governments do not give free treatment for immigrants with HIV unless they are asylum seekers. You may well have been able to have access to general medical care on a TWP but not HIV treatment because of the cost. You would've had to have paid privately for it. Of course it's racist. Most of you have voted with your feet, anyway. ;)

Re: So you can Vote in the UK election.....?
I did register to vote because I kept getting these stupid pop-up ads from gov.uk and then I realized when I woke up the next day what a bloody stupid thing I just did because HMRC count that as a tie for tax purposes, also I have a feeling I've just signed up for the possibility of jury duty.
So then the council sent me an e-mail saying that I'm registered and I've had to write back telling them to cancel it! I don't even know why I did it, I don't really follow British politics anyway, couldn't care less. Really, this is a way of getting more tory votes because expats tend to vote tory so the govt is advertising this because they think it will help them. |
Re: So you can Vote in the UK election.....?
I'm normally a green voter but I'll lend my vote to SNP this election.
I hope we get a ToryUKIP coalition government who pulls the UK out of the EU in a year. Scotland then runs an emergency referendum to stay in and we finally get the independence we desperately need. Just wipe everything clean and start again from scratch. |

Interesting map regarding UKIP support.
Mapped: where is Ukip's support strongest? Where there are no immigrants - Telegraph |
