So close to Vancouver, yet so far.
If it were not for health care in the US being a pain and pricey, I'd move to Point Roberts, nice little town, right on the ocean, right along the border, easy commute to Vancouver/Richmond area for work.
National Mountain Sound Realty - Point Roberts
They even have a house listed with ocean views, and it's only 399,000.
If only those prices existed on this side of the border....lol

I think there does have to come a point when you stop tormenting yourself with what if's...
You have pointed out numerous times the US healthcare system is not an option for you both so what is the point of looking? The only thing that achieves is to increase dissatisfaction on a day to day basis... So you can either move elsewhere in Canada or the province or just get on with it...
Btw not many people have an "ocean view"... If they do then great but I personally don't feel like I'm missing out just because I don't live on a lake which apparently is the thing to do in this area and your ocean equivalent.

There is nothing wrong with looking and wondering, if none of us had done that then we would all still be in the UK.

That's actually a very good point. I suspect we are, by nature, the type of people who look and wonder - and then do something about it.

A plot of land in this area is well out of reach, it's the land that is valuable which keeps housing high.
Current cheapest vacant lot is 260,000 and like most available, it's in a pre-planned development so unlikely they would permit a mobile home.
Land ain't cheap in the lower mainland of BC.
For the others, I was just looking and dreaming, there is limited ability to change much as I don't have the earning power to earn the near 6 figures that would be needed to own a house, but I can still look and dream.

Re: So close to Vancouver, yet so far.
If all goes well, hopefully start in November.
My wife may take it as well, she has a lot of admin experience, but lacks the technology experience/skills and it would help her move ahead in her job or another elsewhere, but will benefit her.
But she hasn't decided, she has narrowed down to a couple potentials. She is really academic and does well in school, so she is looking into psych nursing as well, we have a couple friends who are working in that field, and they keep encouraging her to look into it.

As another posted said, Pt. Roberts is in the US but is physically attached to Canada and separated from the mainland US, only why to/from the point by land is through Canada though. But if one lives there they are not residents of BC and thus lose Canadian healthcare.
