So cheap flight to Blighty

Where are they at, and has anybody come across any good deals for the summer timeframe?

Prices seem to be double what they were last summer:thumbdown:

I'm actually flying from YYZ to London next week. IIRC the flights we have are from Delta and cost about $800 gold doubloons per person. We booked two months ago, but I'd have to agree with you that fares these days are egregious.

Transat is cheaper, but the idea of flying them makes me feel :scaredhair:

Conversely, I hate flying with them. It's impossible to sleep and the entertainment is just awful, meaning that I spend a full night of travel awkwardly crooked into a tiny seat (and I'm 5'1') desperately trying to sleep. I'm not even mentioning the in flight food, which I've found to be uniformly unpalatable.

Don't get me wrong, I've flown Transat a lot of times. I find paying extra to actually spend the 8 or 9 hour transatlantic flight in some form of comfort more than worthwhile.

My favorite flight back to the home country was on Delta, and I slept the whole trip. I was in business class for that though...

Have you tried skyscanner? I find the best deals on there.

But where do you get the ticket for that price? I found a really good flight to Europe with Lufthansa, but when I go on the Luthansa page it's around 200 pounds more for the same flight. Will a travel agent match the ITA price?

Print off the ticket codes and take it to a travel agent. We went to Flight Centre and they matched it within $100 or so.

Flight Centre also had a deal on whereby if you find the exact ticket cheaper elsewhere, they'll beat it by at least a $ and if they can't, you get the flight for free.

Not sure if they still do it, but maybe worth looking into also.

I think the UK government are trying to ban cheap flights through air passenger duty.

Currently for the UK to Canada leg of the journey its £94 (I think) for the lowest class on the flight. Any higher class than the most basic makes it jump up to £180 something.

I'm sure airlines have found a loophole in that last rule, as I'm sure I could have been upgraded to "economy plus" for £40.

Does Canada have an equivalent tax?

I've not flown the Atlantic since 2004 but this has made me look at the cost out of curiosity.

Even allowing for worsening exchange rates the cost seems to have doubled at least.
