Almost all local cable companies across Canada take a feed from ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, WB, Space, and more, so you'll be covered for pretty much anything out of the US. And there are a few home-grown shows as well, on CBC, CTV etc. Little Mosque on the Prairie and Corner Gas seem to typify Canadian comedies - sometimes quite wry humour and a little more subtlety than the laugh-track-ridden sitcoms from the American majors.

You might struggle to find The Bill, but then you'll have plenty of new shows to watch instead. Heck, if it's police procedurals you're after (although the Bill seemed a bit more like a soap opera to me, so perhaps I'm missing the point) you've got at least three flavours of CSI (Las Vegas, Miami and New York) plus at least three flavours of Law & Order (including Special Victims and Criminal Intent) plus all the other crime stuff like Criminal Minds, Numbers, Cold Case, Missing, etc etc ad nauseam.

As for the X Factor, there are talent shows galore - I know the X factor's been done in the US (complete with Simon Cowell), and apparently they even imported that prize tit Piers Moron for America's Got Talent. The Canadian ones are a bit cringe-makingly awful, though... I watched a couple of Canadian Idol episodes last season, the first time because I was channel-surfing, and the next one because I simply couldn't believe that the standard of performance in the first one had really been that bad. Sadly it really had been.

I suppose I can pick up on all the american shows, but they will all be so far ahead! Oh, I forgot desperate housewives too!

The bill is totally a soap, it's nothing like reality.. .Trust me, I've done the job! Infact, it's more like a comedy than anything to me these days, it's so far removed from reality!!

I just like British X Factor.. Especially seen as this year it has Brian Friedman in it... :P

I believe that they sometimes edit out the 'news' items and sometimes if the Star in a Reasonably Priced Car is somebody that most Canadians have never heard of, they edit that part out.

It would be wonderful if Clarkson could be edited out at times...he really is a xenophobe at times.

Weeds is on Showcase Channel IIRC. Not sure if the Bill is on, but Casaulty is on BBCC.

Don't worry you'll have enough TV to choose from when you get here....there are literally hundreds of channels.

I agree with you septimus, there is no way you can edit any of them out especially Clarkson the show is a British classic long may it stay. Taking out Clarkson is like taking the fighting out of hockey it just cant happen. As I stated earlier a lot of the UK channels are now streaming on the net so it is possible using a UK proxy to watch many of the programmes mentioned, live or recorded.
There is always a way all you have to do is look for it.

I stand by my original position on Clarkson...granted he doesn't give in to the PC brigade, but he really is a xenophobe... He is a man child IMHO...the other two are the voices of reason and maturity on the show.

Hockey w/o fighting would hopefully show us what a skillful game it is rather than a game that has a large appeal to knuckle draggers.

Clarkson has a lads appeal....the other two have an appeal that crosses the genders.

Apparently, Clarkson went to Ottawa and the Gatineau park area this summer and had the misfortune of renting a Dodge Caravan from Thrifty Rent a Car. He criticized the intellectual capacity of the staff at Ottawa Airport rent a car pick up desk etc. That is like the pot calling the kettle black as I have yet to see any highly evolved intellectual people working at Heathrow rent a car desks.

As you can tell, Clarkson rubs me the wrong way...he reminds me of a cousin I'm glad I left behind in the UK...totaly xenophobe....Billy Britain all the way.
