Shipping a box from the UK
 

I normally go back every year for a visit and catch up and bring back a case of goodies...but don't think I am gonna get back this year....so was gonna ask a friend to ship me a box of goodies.....does anyone have any experience with this?? i'm in no hurry, just preferebly the cheapest way...I would have it shipped to the US tho...as my hubby works there and then wouldn't have to pay a tonne of import tax etc....TIA!!!

Why would you have to pay a bunch of taxes? If the box is marked gifts and not one single item is over $60 Cad then no taxes are applicable;)
Now agreed if the box contents are not gifts then yes taxes would be applicable. Hubby would still have to declare the items as goods acquired.

Why would they not be taxable going into the US and then when you bring it into Canada?. You may end up getting dinged twice. Things to consider would be duty if any and sales tax.

Depends on the border officer you get as well. When doing business imports it goes well, when that office is closed, finding a BO that knows the right tariff codes is a challenge. If they consider the box as one gift or each item individually depends on what you have to pay.

I know lots of people who have received "gift" packages from the UK around Xmas....and they have all got slammed with taxes......anyway forget the tax issue, this isn;t wot I wanted advice on asmy hubby crosses the border everyday.....and would declare the items in dribs and drabs......its cheap shipping advice/info I need not import tax.....thanks!!!

with out waffling on too much.....but if anything is purchased outside of the state its being shipped too then tax is normally paid on the item during the time your taxes are done.....when an accountant does your taxes....or if you do them yourself, you have to declare how much u have purchased online via ebay/amazon and/or out side the state u live....u either pay the tax on the amount u have declared/purchased or its a fixed $50, but because the items that we have bought that are shipped to Michigan isn't staying in Michigan we don't pay tax on it.....everything we have purchased is declared at the border....and so far everything we have bought on line via amazon/ebay or anything that has been sent to us via mail has been declared and Canada border has let it go.....

hi, we've just used transglobal express and sent 55kg via air which cost £122.26
the box had tools in and took two people to carry, so we were really pleased with our price.
read the small print though as I think that if the box is heavier than you've quoted/paid for the charges they apply seemed pretty high.
when hubby's friend received it on our behalf, (he's only just landed and was staying in temp accomodation so sent it to mates addr.) he did have to pay duty/tax or something which we will try to claim back as it's all on our gtf. not sure if we'll get it back but it's worth a go

We're all in the wrong business.

I sent boxes to Toronto in August. 1 cubic metre, around 8 boxes. It cost around 400 euro from Ireland. Anyhooo... after getting no work and generally hating Toronto, we sent our boxes straight back to London. The company who received our stuff dont generally ship boxes like ours but after asking nicely and explaining our situation they agreed. They charged us 100 bucks... yep, just 100. The mark up these companies charge is astronomical.

hi guys old thread i know but i'm currently in the same predicament. trying to find the best price londonuck who did you use to ship things to and fro and hows things now youre back in UK
