Shark Vacuums

Used to have a Dyson in the UK. Loved it. Now need to buy a vacuum cleaner over here, and as the house I've just bought is entirely hard floors (we'll probably have a couple of rugs, but other than that it'll be laminate and tiles) I wonder whether a Dyson is really worth the money. I get the keys today, so the urgency to get a vacuum cleaner has increased!

A couple of people have recommended Shark vacuums to me. Anyone got one? Any good? By any chance has anyone got one who used to have a Dyson and can now give me a comparison?

Thanks :)

Dyson is money well spent IMO. Which Shark are you considering?

Rotator Lift Away Professional. Perhaps. I've only just started looking into it, so I'm not sure really.

I bought a 40 special at Wal-Mart, and oddly its a pretty decent machine, 6 months in and still sucks crap up like no tomorrow. I have hard floors but only 600 sq feet so its not like it gets used super lot, once a week, so no clue how long the thing will last.

I've always wanted to try a Dyson, but their prices are so out there, I could never justify buying one..

our dyson is great on carpet but crap on hardwood.
the best thing we have invested in is a roomba.
does both quite nicely with little to no input from me.

Result!

I second that...I've had Roombas for years and they are great for solid floors.

ours does a good job on carpets too.of course I suspect it is plotting to kill me in my sleep but that's a small price to pay....

It does but it seems to run out of battery quicker...and mine didn't like fringed rugs.

I bought my daughter one for Christmas about 4 years ago...she loves it.

I have a shark proffessional lift away and I love it. I do have long pile carpet and hard floors about 50/50 and long haired dogs and it is brilliant. Prior to the shark I bought a far more expensive hoover which I used a half dozen times before the head motor went, I got it replaced on warranty and struggled on another few months until I got my shark. I really cannot fault it.

We've got a Samsung version of a Roomba and it works very well on hard floors.

Well travelled too - it came with us from the UK!

We've got some kind of steerable Hoover fake Dyson rip-off as well - was on 'offer' at London Drugs. Seems to work well.

Here's an online review (if you have not already seen it) which includes some buyers comments. It looks like an ok machine, I guess with a Dyson you are also buying durability.

Stop it, stop it now! :D
I only know what you're talking about as a co-worker had shown me the video as he was getting a roomba. He now has one and found a use for the hyperlapse app on his phone by videoing it doing it's thing.

I just don't "get" them, well, I slightly do, but is it really that hard to push a hoover around? I'm a seriously lazy bugger, but do manage to vacuum every once in a while, and it doesn't take me that long.

Hey....don't knock it until you've tried it. :D
