Many people we know look at the blog and that's been somewhat problematic, apart from the obvious "you let my daughter ..." type comments there's an element of censorship; Anna has an entertaining commentary on the local township of Mulmur which she wrote when we were strangers and which she now won't publish because she sees herself as being part of the community and doesn't wish to casually offend local people. Some pith is lost if you pause to consider reader's feelings. Anna's heroine wouldn't fall into that trap. |

I think our blog has been most successful with strangers, other people in similar circumstances (or ones who would never ever get into such circumstances), with whom we've struck up correspondence.

I started out my blog with the idea that I would be anonymous and be able to comment freely, but my friends and family know who I am so I have to consider feelings. I'm did think about a second blog that would be truly anonymous but I think that someone somewhere would match the two up, so circumspection rules.
My personal political positions were anathema to my colleagues and so I adopted a pseudonym. Now that I'm less directly involved in the business it matters less to me that my name and the dbd33 name have blended. It helps, of course, that the kids have grown up, now I don't absolutely need the money. |

I first registered using my own name but, three posts later, realized that putting my opinions on the internet in my name would be a "career limiting move". I was heavily involved in a successful business, one that has policies such as not employing women or non-white people, and which services clients who value those qualities.

I've made some good contacts through the blog, especially to do with hearing loss, and that's one of the reasons for blogging. I've also had comments from people saying that my blog had helped them. So it has it's benefits and maybe keeping the lid on the vitriol is a good thing. |
