Sending money to England.

I have to send a couple of hundred pounds to my sister in England.

The last time I did this I sent an International Money Order through the mail. I phoned my bank. I can't email money except in Canada.

Does anybody else know of a more convenient way than snail mail?

I guess I can't do any kind of a credit card transfer or something can I?

I suppose I could pay her through Paypal but I would want to check how much they would charge me or her for that - anybody know?

Paypal is 4% to transfer your funds into. free for her to accept.

i guess i should have checked.

Monthly sales Price per transaction
£0.00 GBP - £1,500.00 GBP 3.4% + £0.20 GBP
£1,500.01 GBP - £6,000.00 GBP 2.9% + £0.20 GBP
£6,000.01 GBP - £15,000.00 GBP 2.4% + £0.20 GBP
£15,000.01 GBP - £55,000.00 GBP 1.9% + £0.20 GBP
above £55,000.00 GBP* 1.4% + £0.20 GBP

Yes, thanks. I did see that on Paypal but I wasn't sure if "sales" was exactly the same thing as just sending money somewhere. If it is, they I figured it would cost me $15 which is a bit of a waste of money as far as I am concerned.

Re: Sending money to England.

My mum sent me some money from NZ to UK through bank transfer. I had to get a special number from my bank, which I gave to her, and then her bank did the rest. I'm sorry I can't remember what the number was, and I don't know what the charges are. In fact I would like to know for future reference if anyone does.

When I was out in NZ last I was able to withdraw cash on my debit card to repay her. I was charged a fee (£1.50) - check with your bank because they probably vary.

You could do small amounts through Western Union.

Actually, having thought about it. Its 206 pounds. So if the above formula is correct then it will cost me $15 I think. But then I avoid having to line up in the bank and wait while they figure out how much it will be in dollars and all that jazz. And then I will still have to go to the post office to get a stamp. I might be lazy enough to spend the Paypal fees!

If it's small amounts I just put cash in an envelope and send it.

Why not invite her over to stay and give it to her? Then she can take you out to dinner to thank you for having her!

I was going to say something rude!!!! What a guy I used to work with called a "short discourse on sex and travel" and the second word is "off" and the first word begins with F.

Smart a**!!!

Thanks for that. I will remember it for future. But this would be Canadian dollars to Sterling. So it won't work.
