Selling Insurance.....

Anyone here an insurance salesman? Is it something one should go near with a ten-foot barge-pole? Is it something one can really earn a living at?

Just wondering. Hubby quit his job (he wants nothing more to do with retail) and I can see creeks and no paddles right now ......

I would turn to drink .... but that costs money ......

Can't help with the insurance thing, but is that not another form of retail? I understand your OH not wanting anything else to do with retail, I'm about 'done' with people but something is stopping me from just quitting like your hubbs.

I'm trying to figure out what I'd actually like to study and change my career, but then I'm only Part time and although we need my income, we could do without.

Is your OH just fed up with what he's selling or is it the hours and the public that's getting to him?

Best of luck with him, hope you manage to get him back to work and being the hunter gatherer he should be!:rofl::thumbsup:

I don't know about insurance, but I work in the mortgage industry, where agents/brokers can earn a decent income. I assume it's a similar business model for insurance. As with everything here in Canada though, your hubby will probably have to get a license/accreditation to practice. That's certainly the case in the mortgage industry. You could try looking into your local technical college to see what accreditation courses they offer. He may even see something else he's more interested in.

Good luck.

Insurance runs the gamut from selling something small such as flight cancellation/auto/home to insuring massive multi-billion construction projects. It can take many years of study to obtain the necessary qualifications to be an actuary or major underwriter.

I'm an insurance broker, but I dont really do sales.
What kind of insurance is your husband thinking of selling?
As mentioned above, he'd need an insurance license, but they are relatively easy to achieve.
