Off topic, but were you looking for mortgage? Ours seems to be settled at 5.09% which I think is pretty good all things considered.

Mmm still considering my options, but have to be quick as closing date for sale is likely end of the month. I may just go for variable rate for a year and watch the rates fall ... but am open to suggestions.

I don't like variable rates as I'm not good with surprises. At one point I was 18% so 5ish looks great to me and I've locked in for as long as possible. I've been well pleased with that Darlene, I'd email her and ask advice.

To continue the thread drift.....

I have a 5 yr variable rate deal with First Line Mortgages (part of CIBC and only accessable intially through a mortgage broker) at 0.9% below prime rate. As Prime is 6% current that gives me 5.1%. I can also switch to a fixed rate deal at any time. Might be of interest.

Ta for that - much appreciated.

To get back on Topic, this is one of the reasons me, wife and 3 y/o son are moving out there. This kind of thing is happening daily. Stabbings, muggings, verbal and physical abuse. If you'd been away for 3 years and came back to the UK, you would not believe what sort of a country it has become. We'll be getting on the plane and not looking back.

I was away for three years before our visit in November. I thought it to be a delightful place.
