"Not leaving" and "it's a member" (still)...there's an awful lot of common ground there.

Chancellor changes the law allowing American Finance Houses to join in and make money in the UK finance market. Former Chancellor then takes enormously paid 'consultancy' with American Finance House. Political party fails to win expected majority, does deal with DUP plowing increased millions into Northern Ireland in return for DUP supporting political party. Where did they find that money tree? It is soon revealed that funds donated from an unknown source on the mainland supporting Brexit are diverted to DUP who, in turn, diverted said funds to Brexit campaign group back on the mainland, thus bypassing rules on declaring campaign money. Coincidence? Grenfell tower covered in illegal cladding. "standards better in North America" people say and I defensively think the standards exist in the UK but are not necessarily adhered to...and then it turns out there are scores of other tower blocks similarly affected and the standards maybe don't exist after all. Bedroom tax, Dementia Tax, incredibly harsh benefit sanctions for the most trivial of transgressions. Cover ups, lies, inquiry after inquiry and it takes 28 years before criminal charges are brought against those involved in the deaths and more of 96 football fans. Honestly, I feel like disowning the UK and renouncing citizenship. Remind me what's good about the place. |

Re: Say something good about the UK
Although we haven't even lived in Canada for a year yet, we haven't lived in the UK for a lot of years so I had to think quite hard about good things as I've never had even the slightest desire to go back, even when things weren't sunshine and roses in the various countries we've lived in.
The only thing I can think of is looking around formal gardens at National Trust and RHS properties. I used to enjoy that. |
