Savings account

Does anyone know of a decent savings account with easy access that pays better than 1.5%? Is there some way of comparing online, like money supermarket but canadian?

Is it just me or are there no comparison engines at all? Am beginning to quietly despair..... We are in BC if that makes any difference.

Not come across a comparison site............have a look at an ING savings account, but most of the bank ones are fairly low

I just opened an rbc tax free savings account. Lot's of providers are pushing TFSA's at the moment.

Scotiabank was pushing TSFA's at me recently, as an alternative to putting money into GIC's. I thought that was pretty lousy advice. I had $14k to play with. The GIC route took that amount off my taxable income, will earn me interest and I won't pay tax on it until I'm in a much lower tax bracket. The TFSA route earns me interest (probably crap) that I don't pay tax on but doesn't reduce my taxable income. If I'd gone down the second route, I'd have paid about $7k more in tax in 2008 (combined rate of 48.2%).

I'm very glad I moved all my RRSPs into a rolling GIC last year. The longer-term bits are paying better than 4.5%.

I found this warning to check the small print --

Apparently it looks as if things often appear better than they really are.
