Is there much point sending an 84 yr old to prison. Could they not just tag him and keep him under house arrest / curfew type thing ? Or am I going soft ?

Way too soft, imo. If anything I think he should get longer by way of balancing all the extra freedom and opportunity to re-offend that he's had all these years.
